The media otherwise has no reason to really like the guy as evidenced by the scathing editorial in the NYT late 2008 right before the election.

From the aircraft carrier incident to the very reason he was shot down to turning into “songbird” to his vengeful behavior in the senate when he based votes off vendettas and not the best interest of the electorate - I loathe his professional track record.

If wes is simply saying you have to respect being able to endure being a POW and the torture then yeah we may be. But I seriously doubt he harbors the same ill will professionally at McCain that we do. I found the guy repulsive for many of his actions as an officer and a senator.

I took the "warmongering shitbag" comment as a hypothetical rather than a reflection of your own position.  As in "you have to respect Nick Cage for making Raising Arizona even if he butchered kittens and puppies after that."
