Looks like Tubbs is on the same page as Franklin..
« on: September 30, 2008, 06:54:43 PM »
From "The Goldmine" today.   http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2008/09/tuberville_throws_his_support.html

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said ``I love this offense'' Tuesday, and said ``there's no panic mode'' over the less-than-productive spread.

``I'm glad we went to it,'' Tuberville said at his weekly press conference.

Tuberville said he supports what offensive coordinator Tony Franklin is doing, though said ``right now, we don't have that talent'' to run all of Franklin's spread concepts. He said that's why Auburn is ``tweaking'' the offense, that recruiting players familiar with the spread should help the cause and gaining experience through the season will make things better.

``The spread offense is a heck of an offense. We're going to run more of it as it goes.

``This is going to be very good for us.''

In his first news conference as AUBURN'S head coach in 1981, Pat Dye was asked this question:  "How long will it take you to beat Alabama"?  To which he responded, "Oh, about 60 minutes".

for whatever reason i just find the comment and the like, "right now, we don't have that talent" a little unsettling.  what does that tell the tenured players?

Now I'm starting to worry about Tuberville's sanity.  What he needs to be saying is "This is clusterfuck of epic proportions and it's going to get fixed".

To basically rip your team by saying right now we don't have the talent????  You recruited these kids, dumbass.  Are you saying you recruited receivers who weren't fast and too stupid to run routes?  Are you saying Brad Lester isn't quick enough to be a feature back in the spread?  Are you saying you recruited Ryan Pugh and Byron Isom and Tyrone Green etc. but you knew they weren't good enough to block in an offense like this?  Or are you just referring to the 4 star QB you recruited that's riding the pines?

What kind of players did you recruit?  And just what do you think your players have to say about that comment Tommy?

"Well, golly gee, Coach is right.  We're just not that good.  I hope Coach can go out and get some good players next year."

This is bullshit!!!!!

Guys....We don't have the Damn talent to run ALL facets of the Tony Franklin Offense, how hard is that to Fuckin' understand?  We recruited for the Al Borges System up until the last month of recruiting season last year.....The ABS used big, possession receivers ONLY.

If the ONLY fuckin' WR that was going to make this offense run smoothly was a True Freshman, "Frenchy", and he gets hurt for the entire year, before the first offensive snap....that should've told Every Auburn Men and Women something right there.  Also, I'd heard that when CTF first arrived and looked at our receivers going through the bowl practices, he said, Jerrel Jernigan (a True Freshman at Troy at the time) could come in right now and start over most of the receivers we have in place.

That's not to say that you can't have big, possession type receivers, because you need those type receivers....But, you also need the fast and shifty receivers, a receiver that can take a short slant to the house, or a WR screen to the house.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't the Only reason why the offense isn't clicking.

You can read anything you want into what Tubs and Franklin are saying, but what they mean when they say, "we don't have the players here" they really mean, "we don't have a QB in here."

Look, I don't know if this shit will work or not. It worked at Kentucky, a variation of it worked at Florida and a different variation worked at West Virginia. I personally think Franklin tried to run a mix between what Urban runs and what Rich runs. I think if Auburn had a good quarterback, we wouldn't be having this discussion...

Don't get me wrong, this isn't the Only reason why the offense isn't clicking.

We don't have simply big, possesion receivers here and it doesn't take a bunch of 5'8" 160 lb. guys to run this offense.  If it does, then we're in BIG FUCKIN' TROUBLE!!!  Tony Franklin is full of shit if he thinks Jerell Jernigan could start over most all our guys here.  If that's so, why the fuck didn't anyone offer the kid.  He was a QB out of HS and he made his name at Troy against Middle Tenn. and Florida International.

We have a wide assortment of burners, tall guys, short guys etc.  Robert Dunn is listed at 6'. I've stood next to him. He's 5'10" in high heels.  Terrel Zachary, Chris Slaughter, Rod Smith, Q. Carr, Montez, Tim Hawthorne etc.  Rivals had our WR class a couple of years ago as one of the top in the nation. Someone's gonna' tell me these guys can't run patterns or take it to the house?  Hell yes they can.

Franklin is not doing a damn thing he said he would the entire off season.  "We will definitely use two QB's because of how much running they do and how banged up they'll get."  BS!!  "Kodi and Todd are too close to call.  It's a great problem to have.  They both will play."  BS!!! Kodi fits this offense 10X better than Todd.  Haugabook was a decent passer but very effective runner.  Kodi fits that bill and is worlds apart from Todd in that area.

Franklin is running a version of the spread that doesn't even resemble West Va. of the past few years or Florida or anyone else for that matter.  He's running a dumbed down version of the offense and REAL SEC coordinators know what's coming before the ball is snapped.  Franklin will NOT be here more than two years.  Successful or not, coordinators don't last that long under Tubby.  And if he goes and we're stuck with a corp of midgets in this league, we're fucked.

I hate being so negative.  I really do.  But, this offense is flat out embarrasing and ranked at the bottom in virtually every category. Now, our head coach is coming out saying we just don't have the talent?  What fuckin' fuck??  If you have athletes you can run whatever the hell you want to.  Do you think Troy would spunk all over themselves if 5'10 217 lb. Mario Fannin decided to ball there?  No, they'd let him ride the pine because he's not a "spread" type athlete.

Was CTT that stupid to bring in someone that would mandate we overhaul our entire offensive personnel just so we could run a particular offense?  There's talent out the ass on offense but Otis has no clue how to use it.  I say again, BULLSHIT!!!

i'm not sure about the whole inexperienced WR's argument.  IMO we have a good group of recievers.  The problem is probably a mixture of the playbook/routes and the QB, but we are starting to kick a dead horse.  i think most of us are in agreement with what the offense's problem is.

I support Auburn.  Auburn is more than coaches and players.  Coaches and players are human. They make mistakes. I will not blindly follow any man just because they drape themselves in orange and blue. There are standards. Expectations. Values. Attitudes. Sometimes people don't cut it.   I will never "support coaches and players 100%."  I expect that they perform in a manner that reflects well on Auburn.  You can be born Auburn.  You can become Auburn. But not everyone who bears the AU brand IS Auburn.

Auburn is not human.  It is spiritual. It doesn't make mistakes.

Big difference.

I went back and reviewed it.  Thought it probably needed to be posted here for people to read.  But nowhere in there could I find the part about "believing in self-serving, shitty coaches who deploy abortive offenses"

I agree.  AUBURN is something bigger than any one person. (see Bama and Bear/Saban for comparison).  Auburn alumni and fans should have a standard that we expect out of all our players and coaches, and i mean that for every sport, not just football.  If Tony Franklin, or whoever, doesn't measure up to that standard, then it might be time to re-think things and make some changes.  For example, what we are now seeing with the changes away from the spread and back to QB under center offense.

But there is also a flip side.  Nothing burns me more at games, than to listen to "boos" from auburn fans directed at the Auburn team.  AUBURN should not tolerate any such behavior from her fans.  There is a balance.  The fans and alumni have standards and expectations (as i think Kaos has illustrated.)  But AUBURN has expectations of us too.  I think it is alright to complain, vent, argue, etc in the proper forums such as Tigers-X, but there are also improper forums for such dissent, such as Jordan-Hare
