Sirius Radio and the SEC

I'm about to order a car and I'm picking out the options I want. One option is a built in Sirius radio that comes with 4 years of service as a part of the price. I have XM in the car I currently drive. The merger between XM and Sirius hadn't taken place yet when I left for the Middle East last year and one thing I didn't like about XM was that I couldn't get SEC football. I remember some of you talking in the past about Sirius being the carrier for the SEC. I just checked out their website and they don't carry ANY SEC teams whatsoever in their lineup. WTF?? Am I overlooking something or did they drop the SEC when they merged with XM?

XM carries the SEC.  Auburn will be on channel 200 this weekend.

However, Sirius carries the Bubba the Lovesponge Show on Howard 101.  It'll be worth getting Sirius for that reason alone.

So the XM/Sirius merger didn't really merge shit, then? Wonderful. And XM picked up the SEC. Even better.

Fuck it, I'll save myself $595 and just move my XM Roadie into the new car.

I think they're waiting for current contract agreements to end and be renegotiated as a combo deal before it can happen. (ie, NASCAR, NFL, MLB, etc...)

Looks like you might be able to buy Sirius and specifically request an ala carte SEC package.

if it was me, i would carry the xm receiver to the new car.  in a few months they will have new receivers out.  at that point they will have things worked out about package prices. they say part of the merger deal was not to raise prices for three years.  we will see.

they also say people with older receivers should have no problem with the transition.  my 5 year old sirius receiver just went in the tank.  i am holding out until they new ones come out.  by the way am and fm radio blows. 

the only thing that concerns me is commercial free radio.  they better stick to it.  sirius is 100 percent on music but i have heard xm is different.

Yes, XM has a few stations that play about 10 minutes of commercials every hour.  I still scream at the radio every time one comes on..."Why am I paying for 'commercial free' commercials?"

Keep an eye on that oxygen sensor. Several guys I know who bought BMW's when I was in Spain had issues with them.

The 'merger' will be completed in the beginning of October in so far as programing is concerned.  I think they said somewhere around Oct. 8 or 9.  At that point, you will be able to more or less get the programming of either provider on either radio (ie, SEC on a sirius receiver).  They've got some 'a la carte' features as well as a 'best of both' programming option.  I read this on the Sirius web site somewhere, I just cant remember exactly where I found it.  I've got an XM receiver built in to my car and have been dying while waiting to get Sirius programming.   :thumbsup:
