David Blaine's Dive of Death
« on: September 25, 2008, 01:51:42 PM »
Did anybody see this absolute pile of horse shit last night?  What a waste of time.  I'm not sure if it went wrong or it went down as planned.  He jumps from the four story structure, only to be hoisted up by a cable and then he "disappears" during the night.  I chose this You Tube video because you see the jump a little better (at the 2:00 minute mark) and you're treated to some New Yorker's thoughts on the dive (hilarious-you can hear them saying "you suck!" and booing him).  Blaine is fizzing out...Chris Angel is the new street magician, IMO.

What exactly was that supposed to prove?  He was a bungee jumper?  Who hasn't tried that?

Duh, it was Bush's fault. Just like everything else wrong in the world.

David Blaine: President Bush's speech messed up my 'Dive of Death'

David Blaine hangs upside down above Central Park's Wollman Rink in New York as he nears the end of his latest endurance challenge Wednesday night.

Magician David Blaine pulled a string of excuses out of his sleeve to explain why his latest high-profile stunt went wrong - even blaming President Bush's Wednesday night prime-time speech.

A day after finishing his latest "trick" - hanging upside down over Central Park for 60 hours before taking a "Dive of Death" from a 44-foot-high platform, a TMZ.com cameraman asked Blaine why the stunt went awry.

"It wasn't meant to be what it was on TV," Blaine told the gossip Web site's cameraman.

Shaking his head, Blaine said the plan was for him to drop just a few feet before being whisked away by a harness attached to a batch of helium-filled balloons.

"But because of the president's speech, my show was delayed 15 minutes and all of the wind picked up," he said.

Fans seemed both delighted and disappointed by Blaine's grandiose attempt.

The bat thing lost some luster when Blaine started taking breaks every hour to stand on his own two feet.

Then the dive looked more like a bungee jump.

Shortly after 11 p.m., Blaine nodded and smiled to hundreds of fans watching the stunt as they screamed, "Jump! Jump!" and, "Do it!"

So he did, dropping straight down from the platform and touching the stage below lightly with his toes before cables pulled him back up.

He then hung in the air like a sack of potatoes with a goofy grin on his face, occasionally kicking his legs as though he were running.

The stunt, which aired as part of a two-hour ABC television special Wednesday night, ended with Blaine floating off into the night attached to giant balloons.

The finale drew more boos than cheers from the crowd, but his faithful fans nevertheless were satisfied.

Ivy Acevedo, 20, a family counselor from the Bronx, said of the show, "It was amazing. He really pulled it off."

But Kenneth Leonor of Newark, a 22-year-old businessman and part-time magician, called the three hours he spent in the park a waste of time.

"I think it was ridiculous," Leonor said. "Everybody was robbed of their time. Everyone thought he was going to jump, but he didn't live up to his expectations."

That Criss-Angel-through-the-window-stunt was one of the first stunts I've seen him do.  If I'm not mistaken that happened about 2-4 years ago.  That's when I knew there was a new magician in town.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

It's Cheney's weather machine and he keeps tight control of it to himself and the Board of Directors at Halliburton...and, sometimes, the guys at Blackwater USA...I think it's being powered up for TS Kyle right now.
