This weeks game vs UT
« on: September 23, 2008, 03:53:47 PM »
This is a very dangerous game for us imo.  Kinda like last year when we were 1-2 going to face UF and were a 21 point underdog.  Tubbs had the team fired up and we played a hell of a game, and turned our season around.  UT is loaded with talent, it's just not clicking yet, and I hope for our sake that it doesn't click for at least one more week.  They held UF in check, but gave up special teams points, and fumbled inside the five (sound familiar?) which made the score look alot worse than it really was.  Speaking of special teams, is Durst back this week?  I sure as hell hope so.

Any thoughts?

Tennessee has two things that can (and just might) defeat us -

1) A VERY good secondary

2) Talented running backs

Eric Berry is the second best safety in the entire country.  I'm not okay with the thought of Chris Todd floating footballs in the air with a guy with Berry's speed running them down.

Their RBs aren't as good as Charles Scott, but you all saw what a strong running back can do against our defense.  I expect Tennessee to take the ball out of Crompton's hands and let Arian Foster and Co. pound it.  If they can have some success, we might be in for a long day.

On the other hand, Tennessee sucks.  They're demoralized, and their coach has to be tired of being on the hot seat.  Every year, Fulmer has to make a concentrated effort to turn his team around.  I think his days are soon coming to an end.  It'll be evident this week as Auburn looks bad against Tennessee but still pulls out a victory.

Foster is a very good back.  Hardesty is, too.

That said, I think Scott's success was due mostly to his monster OLine.  Tennessee's OLine is not as good.

I have to disagree.  When our linebackers meet running backs in the hole, the running backs usually go down.  At most, they might fall forward.  If you would like a citation, see 2007 vs. Arkansas.

However, I repeatedly saw Charles Scott plowing our defenders.  I think Merrill Johnson is still recovering from the cleat marks on his chest.  Foster might be good; Hardesty might be fast.  Neither one of them will do what Scott did to us - no matter what line they're running behind.

Scott had mammoth holes to run through.  He was usually 4-5 yards past the line before anyone got to him.  By then, head of steam and 4-5 more yards are certain.  LSU's O-line is as good as we will face.

I watched almost all of UT/UF.  In a happy, drunken stupor mind you...but damnit, I know football, drunk or not.  UF was just having fun on defense.  They were flying around, taking pot shots at the Cheetos.  That game was over half way through the 2nd quarter.  The UT fans knew it.  They vacated the premises in a hurry.

Will we do the same?  Probably not because of our offensive issues.  But Auburn is better than UT....period.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

Byrd and LaFell are good reasons Scott had holes this past Saturday.  Tennessee doesn't have a threat downfield that will keep us from being able to beat the Cheeto's into submission up the middle this Saturday.

That is all.
