I don't watch basketball. Haven't really since the Barkley/Person days. Or, well, since I coached it for three years.
Yesterday, though, there was not much else on and I was just killing some time before I went to sleep. Scrolled by a game at the half where top seed VA was tied with 16 UMBC (who?) So I decided to watch it for a while -- I figured until Virginia imposed its will -- and then turn on a movie or something. Never got to the movie.
One of the most fun halves of basketball I've ever seen. The Retrievers could have slammed the ball off the floor and then done a spinning roundhouse kick that hit the ball. It would have flown into the stands, hit a guy eating a hotdog, bounced into the rafters and then fallen right into the basket without touching the rim. I kept thinking UVA would make a move, but UMBC had an answer -- usually in the form of an unreal drive through the lane or a three-point dagger.
The only people in the world who watched that and didn't enjoy had to be Virginia fans (or people with money in the bracket that had VA winning it all).
