Yeah. Hard to make excuses. I'm not sure what all went down really. I think our somewhat "lucky" streak finally caught up with us.
Brown was shooting at a 40+% clip from 3. That fell to under 30%.
Harper had been playing lights out. Distributing the ball. Hitting clutch 3's. Not turning it over. And he has done the exact opposite last 4 or 5 games.
Auburn was close to 80% FT% all year, and in the tourney, I think less than 50%. That's crazy.
I think when Brown and McLemore got hurt, the confidence went out the window. When the shots weren't falling, everyone starting to panick and they simply couldn't turn it back around.
Honestly, I had not been sold on this team all year. I just couldn't believe how they had been winning like they had all year undersized and pretty much outmanned. But they fought through it and won the SEC. Congrats. If not for that, and being a 4 seed, Auburn would have been bounced the first game, because there was nothing left at the end of the season.

Losing your one post player changes the entire approach and how you play on both ends.

As long as the 3's being launched in mass quantity are landing its all good. When the other team KNOWS that's what you are going to do and D's up on you on the perimeter you die by it. And it gets ugly.

I tend to think something came to light around the time of McLemore's injury. Suddenly we couldn't shoot, couldn't make free throws, turned the ball over uncharacteristically and our defense suffered as well. 

Maybe it was the injury but it could also be a combination of things that got into their heads.

with Arizona it was the news of the payoff.
*North Carolina had their belongings stolen.

*Can't get me to believe TAMU takes down 10 interchangeable sharpshooters like UNC has by 21pts.

Something has happened to our team. They just didn't become shitty.

I think we underestimate Bryce Brown's shoulder injury.  He showed flashes of his greatness after that, but he was never the same.

So...lose:
1) the defensive prowess of McLemore under the basket;
2) all the transition points (and hard to calculate momentum that builds when the team is running and gunning) that come from his league-leading ball swats (simmer down Snag);
3) Brown's ability to shoot with any degree of accuracy
and you're left with a bunch of small guards who can't penetrate.

We got figgered out and everyone guarded the perimeter and we couldn't score for shit.

Nothing worse than a parade of people coming by AT HALFTIME expressing sympathy.  It was good to find a communal hate for all things Bama, but having random Idahoans drop by like it was a funeral greeting line...

To me it seemed as if we became the 4 win team we were predicted to be...but I didn't view us enough down the stretch to have any opinion about our coaching. Did you think Bruce was on point during our losing skid...beyond the b.s., interviews and articles?

At the first of the season, I tell you there's this team that will lose two of it's top scorers from last season. Won't have a guy over 6'8" on the floor, no seniors, and will be down to 8 scholly players by the end of the season and still win the SEC. You would laugh at me!
