On another note, today was Ryan Rucillo's last day at ESPN. As you guys know I said before, I loved this guy. My favorite radio personality, maybe right behind Dan Patrick. Today, he was signing off and giving his wish list for 2018 on talk radio. One thing he said, and this was a very common for Rucillo to be open and honest about things and not toe the company line. He said race has been one of the hot topics the last few years and ESPN has almost forced its employees to confront or engage in the diversity discussion. And he admitted to learning a lot through open discussions with people of color. But, he went on to say there may be racial issues in many walks of life but it's time to leave sports out of it. Stop stretching everything that happens to a black person into a racially motivated issue.
He said if Lovie Smith gets fired after 2 years, it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with him sucking. He went on to name several white coaches who got canned early in their tenure. They got fired because they weren't getting it done. Refreshing. I've listened to a ton of Rucillo and he's never shied away from controversy. Only one I've heard call out Michael Bennett of the Seasquawks for being a fraud. When the follow up video from Las Vegas came out proving that Bennett faked the whole "Cops mistreated me cause I'm black" thing, Rucillo and co-host Will Cain, asked "Why are we the only ones calling him out on it? Where is the rest of sports media?"
ESPN continues to fuck themselves. I hate that he's leaving. I turned him on every day when I left the office for lunch.
