I watched the preview show just before the season started. When the GM says multiple times that we're using this year to look at some guys and see who will be part of the future, it doesn't give you the warm and fuzzies going in.

He's given up 12 hits in a little over 10 innings. Obviously it's early, but a hit an inning not a good thing. He's fun to watch, though. I love to watch someone who knows how to actually pitch. Unfortunately, baseball seems to have become all about who can throw it 97 plus.

The Yea? Braves take the series. 7-3 win. Double digit hits. 2 HR's. Still no closer though. Vizcaino and Minter both have nasty stuff but neither can throw a damn strike. Oh well.

The Frick? 8th inning inside fastball hits Freddie Freeman in the exact spot that Toronto plunked him in last year. Left wrist. Missed 44 games. He winced in pain, dropped his hands and walked straight to the dugout and down the tunnel, like he knew. We're not good in the first place, but you can't lose one of the best hitters in the game. We'll see what comes out of it.

Cubbies get the split with the Cards in a shortened series. Braves pound the 1st place Mets 12-4. I think that should be about it for Matt Harvey. I believe I could have gotten a couple of good swings off him last night. Okay, let's not get cra-cra. But, he was leaving low 90's stuff out over the plate all night. I heard the announcers say something about him setting the franchise record for a Mets starter not getting past 5 innings in consecutive starts.

That score of yesterday's Cubs/Cards game is a bit misleading. Down 8-1, Cards rallied back. I'm not one for moral victories, but I like the fight in this team. Last year's team would have just laid down and died. I'm sure when the Cards flipped the lineup in the 7th, already with 4 runs across the board and Dex, Pham, and Ozuna up, Buzz was cussing.

Cards host Pondscum for 3, and Braves face Reds for game 2 of a 4 game set.
