About what was expected, plus some unnecessary injuries.
Sandwiched between a couple of matchups with #1, and kicking off pre-noon, the sluggishness of the team was predictable.
That said, they shook it off (presumably after the coaches chewed some ass at the half) and finished impressively with some quality PT for the young guys.
Jamel Dean remains a liability. We're going to have to give him safety help on his side against Bama. That's troubling given the linebacker injuries we're working with. I'd expect bama to work that side of the defense with the run game pretty hard.
My last gripe is about the schedule, so it's petty. A contender shouldn't sweat a cupcake...ever. But there are cupcakes and there are cream puffs...or something else from the bakery.
I think we'd all agree that Mercer, while cupcake-y, isn't on par with LaMo. There are competitive rent-a-wins and some that you just hand a check and clear the bench. Why, oh why, do you insert a competitive rent-a-win into Amen Corner? I know filling the schedule isn't like picking your lunch from the dim-sum cart, but you can certainly find any number of fodder teams for that particular weekend. Every year.
