AUBURN, Alabama â€” The NCAA has handed down a ruling on Auburn sophomore Austin Wiley announcing him as ineligible for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

"Auburn menâ€™s basketball student-athlete Austin Wiley will not be eligible for competition until the 2018-19 season following an NCAA reinstatement decision. After an internal investigation, Auburn self-reported violations involving recruiting, extra benefits and agent-related activity," the NCAA said in a statement.

Now that I've cleaned up the brain and skull fragments...

I feel cheated. This would have been hands-down the best Auburn basketball team of my life, with a damn good shot at actually winning a basketball National Championship and that has been taken from us.

I believe Auburn believes Wiley is clean because he's still with the team and Vicky Orr's jersey's still hanging up in the arena.

If they thought there was a remote chance that they were involved in any kind of negotiations, they would have gotten the Cecil Newton treatment.

They clearly thought they provided enough proof to the NCAA, but apparently, the NCAA disagreed.

Fuck the NCAA.

Also, the misinformation in this whole thing has been terrible. Yeah, I get that a lot of this was hush-hush for legal and procedural reasons, but why were there reports as late as yesterday saying it wasn't in the NCAA's hands?

This^^ They should have played them anyway. What is that pathetic piece of shit of an organization going to do? Investigate for 5 years then try to weakly slap someone on the wrist? Anyone who pays attention to the college round hoops game knows that North Carolina should have been fucking hammered. Nope! Nothing...nada...zip...zilch. The only reason Ole Miss got any sanctions at all in football was because someone to the east of them got pissed about someone playing on their level and more importantly, cheating on their level. They should have played Wiley and Purifoy from the start and told the NCAA to

Hold on now.
We have a very good team in every regard even without Wiley. But truly we aren't in the league with as many as a dozen of the blue bloods currently circulating inside the top twenty-five.
Love our team. Spoke with my youngest about making a game or two. Haven't been in years. But pump the brakes a little folks.
We might take state, could upset Kentucky or even Florida...maybe even one of the usual suspects if we make the cut.

Yes, even without Wiley.

I believe if we had him (and especially with Purifoy also), we're a frontrunner to win the SEC this year. Probably not without him, although we still could be in the hunt if we keep playing like we've been playing. I'm just saying if we were playing like we've been playing PLUS our "Cam Newton of basketball" was on that court, I believe we'd be in the conversation in March.

If you scoff at "Cam Newton of basketball" perhaps you didn't read all the reports I read over the summer of him absolutely dominating the Olympics.

I agree if it were at the end of the season, but if we had to forfeit those games now, we would have no shot to make it into the tourney.
