The nuclear winter of discontent

Florida is already looking.
Ole Miss has said they will be in the market.
Tennessee almost certainly will — or Neyland may be empty
A&M supposedly decided to cut ties with Sumlin
Arkansas is allegedly fed up with the Bull

All are or will likely be searching.  All but Florida are wildly delusional about their history and place in the SEC world order.

The AU fanbase is generally dissatisfied with Single Bubble.

Given the current state of the athletic department and the paradigm shift that’s about to happen in the SEC — which will in all honesty change very little — will AU enter the marketplace? FWIW, it doesn’t matter who UT, Arky, the rebel black sharks or ags hire.  They will remain within a game or two of where they are.  Florida could contend pretty quickly in the hideous east.

I have a sinking feeling that barring absolute annihilation by both UGA and UA Gus gets another year to learn nothing.  It’s a shame.  The media clearly believes. We have been consistently overranked. If he hadn’t gone full Gus against LSU we’d be fourth or fifth now. And ready to chocolate coat the bed this weekend.

Sigh.

I stick by my early position on Coach Malpractice.  Two things must happen.  Minimum of 10 wins AND a win over either UGA or Bama.  If both don't happen, then I want him to make like a tree and get out of here.

In all honesty, I'm not really worried about who we would hire.  As long as he has experience, a winning resume and Jay Jacobs has nothing to do with it.

Damn this place is straight depressing. Since its "illegal" for me to give everyone here a xanax this is the best I can do.

https://www.seccountry.com/auburn/auburn-football-film-room-gus-malzahn-adjustments-texas-am

No copy and paste due to all the necessary gifs but its a pretty damn good look at the offense and adjustments made in the a&m game. I've also noticed over the course of the season, my ability to call every single play we run (heck if I guessed run up the middle I was right 60% of the time) has decreased significantly. Foolish as it sounds to many, I like where this team is at (#10 in the country). If you'd told me before the season that AU has to beat thuga 2x & beat the gumps to make it to the playoffs, I'd said hell yes I'll take that and most of you would as well. I also think most would agree, though they are undefeated, our 2 rivals are very beatable. The gumps especially so. Their offense has yet to break 30 against a single top 40 defense this season (0 for 4).

I think we can do it. Jordan Hare will be rocking as ever and this Auburn team will be by far the most complete team the gumps and leg humps have faced.

Instead of sticking to the same plan away from home — just like it did in losses to Clemson and LSU earlier this season —

^^Here's the one quote from the piece that IMO is at the root of all the negativity.  These are our two biggest games to date.  And Malzahn shit the bed in both, just like he has in every single big game for the last 3 years. The question is what we'll see come Saturday and 2 weeks after that.

I just picked Auburn 20, Georgia 19. Why? Defense bows up. Offense hits a couple deep shots the way Mizzou did. Daniel Carlson kicks us free.

Uga weak link is secondary. Stidham and Stove/slayton/rd need to expose it. Then kj will be able to run whenever he wants.

But.....gus.

Agree. Thats why I posted the article. It seems like maybe, just maybe, the staff is capable of adjusting after all.

As for the last 3 years, lets look a little closer at that. In 2014 he really didn't shit the bed except for the uga game and I think that was a direct result of the players being disheartened after the butt fumble game. The reason we lost games that year was because Ellis Johnson is the 2nd worst D coordinator in AU history behind Brian Vangoiter. Yea I know Gus hired his ass but lets also give credit where credit is due. He got the defense fixed and now its the best its been in at least a decade. Hard to imagine a 2 better hires than Muschamp and Steele (a move we all bitched about but has turned out to be outstanding). 2015 & 2016 was a massive bed shitting. No denying that. Yet I do think if Sean would've stayed healthy, we would've won one of those thuga games, throw a scare into bama, and probably finished the '16 season with at least 9 wins. Not championship football by any means but I don't think the fan base would be as carrying pitch forks ready to burn it down like they are today. That said, I feel like alot of the issues from the last couple of years are being addressed. Play calling is one (say what you want but our play calling is far less predictable this year outside of the 2nd half of LSU) and mainly the QB position. This Stidham guy is pretty dang good and I think Mailk is gonna be deadly in this offense when its all said and done. I'm also seeing routes that weren't there the last 2 years. Oh and since that LSU game, AU's run-pass ratio on 1st down is pretty close to 50%. Honestly, the more I look for it, the more I start to see progress. Speaking of which, anyone realize AU's redzone offense is 15th in the nation and they are also scoring a TD 70% of the time? Folks thats better than the gumps and leg humps.

Yes those 2 losses hurt. Clemson was classic Gus by not being able to identify his best players in the preseason (though having a hurt Pettway and KJ was a was huge blow in that game). LSU was classic Gus getting too conservative once he got up big. He got tight, players started playing tight, and we lost to a team we are better than. That happens sometimes though (see OSU getting their shit pushed in vs Iowa). However, from what I've seen, Gus has even shown signs he learnt from the LSU game. There was no let up against Arky and aTm. He tried to step on their throats and coached aggressively. Him burning those timeouts before the half and going after that punt in the aTm is a prime example. The reverse pass after the turnover vs Arky is another. Will he coach that way this week in his biggest game at Auburn since Pasadena? We will see but I'm guessing yes. One things for sure. Unlike those 2 trips to Death Valley. These next 2 big games are inside JHS and it will be a factor in both. If we clean up special teams, no more bust on defense and continue to stay balanced on O, I like our chances.

That's fun analysis to read and I appreciate the contorting they're engaging in to justify some questionable offense.  The bottom line, however, is that our offensive is inexplicably limited by the following numbers:

Short passes: 16
Intermediate passes: 3
Deep passes: 14

That is a gross under-utilization of the middle of the field.  Imagine all the yardage we're leaving on the field when Davis/Hastings/Canella are only getting looks on 1/11 passes.

Tennessee almost certainly will — or Neyland may be empty

Gus gets another year but would really like him gone and Tubs back for one season so he can choose his successor. To me that's better than the power brokers picking Rhett Lashlee or Goober Pyle. We aren't going to be happy with their choice and maybe sitting out of the coaching sweepstakes will land us a winner rather than settling for scraps.
Wishful thinking.

Gus will be here next year regardless of whether we win or lose bama and UGA.  Can't fire AD and HC, and I don't want Jacobs anywhere near a search nor will anyone else. (sidenote: I want him gone now)

We have him for at least 1 more year.

My guess Sumlin and Bielema will also be back for next year.

Any team worth a shit will sell out to stop the run. We should know early on v. Georgia if Lindsey is calling the plays. I really don't need to come unglued by our third possession.

Sumlin reputedly already out.

Bielema is toast.  They're gonna get skullfucked by MSU, LSU and Mizzou to finish 5-7.
