Curious how much Jacobs and/or Pearl knew about this beforehand or if the arrest was a total surprise? Somebody had to know some bad shipth was coming. Either way, Jacobs needs to step up to the podium today and address it, even if he says we're just gathering the facts at this point. This is where we need a leader, not a looser.
Do you really want to hear what he has to say?
"I really don't have a reaction other than what the statement was, which is that he wanted to spend more time focusing on things that were important to him and his family," athletics director Jay Jacobs said in a statement. "It's a grind being an assistant coach and having a family; little capos, it's a tough thing. I appreciate him being willing to say, 'You know what, I can't keep doing all of this. I can't have my "family" the way I need to with the time and keep up with all this basketball stuff too.' So, I respect him for stepping out.
"I am very proud of the many great accomplishments our student-athletes have achieved during Coach Person's tenure at Auburn,†Jacobs said. "The foundation for ongoing success is here because of Coach Person's love of Auburn and his desire to see this program reach a level of success that it hadn't seen since I was blocking for Bo Jackson and he and Chuck Barkley (my close personal friend) were playing basketball.
"Looking forward, we will continue to support our basketball team in every way possible so as to ensure their continued success on and off the court.
"I apologize in advance for not being more forthcoming."
