My son has really gotten into soccer the last few years. His school started up a soccer team this past year and while they were way overmatched by teams that actually knew what they were doing, they all got better by season's end. And as a soccer dad that attended all the games, I learned quite a bit about it myself and actually came to enjoy watching teams that had experienced players and were well coached.
He's also started following a couple of professional teams, has favorite players and all that. So, for part of his birthday present, I got him tickets to see Atlanta United play the first match in the new stadium. It's the Georgia Dome on steroids. A lot of windows and seems way more open than the Dome. A lot of stuff to take in. And the grossly overpriced beer was actually pretty cold. It's definitely worth a trip for some event just to check it all out.
Oh, and the soccer? Holy crap, those fans are crazy as hell. They dropped banners around the top of the stadium to kind off block the seats they didn't offer for sale. Probably about 15-20K upper-upper deck seats not sold. The rest of the place was packed. I'd estimate 50K. We were in the section where all the crazies were. All the cheers and singing and drums etc. got everything started in our section. And the match was really fun to watch. Yeah, it's soccer. I get it. But when it's played by athletes at that skill level and the fans are that into it (Never sat down the entire match) and the beer is plentiful and ice cold...yeah, it was keen. I'd do it again.
