Roy Moore Responds to Allegations

On Sean Hannity’s radio show this afternoon, Republican senatorial candidate Roy Moore responded to allegations that he molested a 14-year-old girl and pursued relationships with three other teenagers while he was in his 30s. Moore categorically denied ever knowing Leigh Corfman, the woman who says Moore initiated a sexual encounter with her in February of 1979, when she was 14 and he was 32.

Of the accounts of the other women, Wendy Miller, Debbie Wesson Gibson, and Gloria Thacker Deason, who say that Moore pursued relationships with them when they were in their late teens, Moore was more equivocal. He said he recognized the names of Wesson-Gibson and Deason. “I remember her as a good girl,” he said about both. But Moore said he didn’t remember going on dates with them: “Neither of [Thacker or Wesson] have ever stated any inappropriate behavior,” Moore said, adding “I don’t remember dating any girl without the permission of her mother.”

When Hannity asked Moore if he denied dating teenagers while he was in his 30s, Moore said: “It would have been out of my customary behavior.” (So, not NO, but it wasn't "customary". Jesus.)

The Washington Post reported several details that appear to support Corfman’s account. Two women recall Corfman telling them she was seeing an older man at the time, and one of those women recalls Corfman identifying the man as Moore. Both Corfman and her mother, Nancy Wells, said Moore first approached Corfman outside of a courtroom in Etowah County, Ala. The Post confirmed that Wells had a hearing at that courthouse in February of 1979 via divorce records.

Nevertheless, Moore denied the charge, calling it “a political, direct attack on this campaign.” “I would have never had any contact with [Corfman], nothing with her mother or in a courthouse or anywhere else,” he said. “In fact, her allegations contradict the whole behavior pattern that two of the young ladies even witnessed herself.”

The guy is a fucking slime ball, and you know it. You can deny all you want but if there were a D behind his name and there was this amount of even circumstantial evidence, and rather than deny the allegations say it wasn't part of his normal routine, you would all be just as disgusted as you should be here rather than waiting on some unspecified DNA evidence that can't possibly exist no matter how guilty he is.

Every one of you defending Moore believe every word from Juanita Broaderick, do you not? Why? Please explain to me why her account is infinitely more credible. Please show me the mountain of evidence that exists to vindicate her.

Anyone defending this has flat-out completely ceded any high ground for moral indignation.

I don't know if the story with this girl is true or not.

This is the take-a-way. I don’t know either. But I know the people responsible for getting the story out don’t care if it’s true or not.

I met the man one time 15 years ago. Would assume you know him much better. And he may very well be as bad as you say. But, if the allegations don’t have any legal implications, should that alone cost his campaign? I’m asking this in sincerity.

Getting to AUT:She wasn't asked about it until this story. He also wasn't running for US Senate. You say that's reason to question the timing, I say that explains it. How dare victims retaliate when it will inflict maximum pain and/or when they're asked to speak publically about it for the first time.
