Gary Johnson and ACA....

First off - can I ask this be a factual, logical and "adult" thread before all else? No not that kind of adult thread not that there is anything wrong with that. Facts have no time for your feelings. Economics are not personal.

Second - although I disagreed with Johnson during the election on some things and didn't generally like his overall demeanor, I mostly like his libertarian streak esp on economics and I think he's overall a guy who likes his country and wants it to do well.

He made a statement yesterday regarding repeal and replace, which I thought was summed up well. Especially the bolded part which really drives the whole concept home. We should be looking for solutions that: lower costs and make things organically more affordable across the board. Not things that disguise costs with subsidies ultimately amounting to a covert redistribution of wealth for many.

Thoughts? I'm sure Chad and a few others saw this.

Quote
FROM MY STATEMENT ON OBAMACARE REPEAL:

"The United States healthcare system has been distorted so badly, and for so long, that it will take more than one reform effort to correct the problems further imposed upon it by the Affordable Care Act.

But before proceeding too far down the Washington rabbit-hole over what it means to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, we need to remember that unless we move toward market-based federalism, we’re still heading in the wrong direction.

Obamacare didn’t lower costs, but hid them with subsidies

And therein lies the problem with President Obama’s Affordable Care Act: It did little to move us toward marketplace solutions that would drive down the cost of healthcare. Instead, it “lowered” the price of care by hiding its costs through subsidies."

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Gutter hore!

Sorry.

Obamacare was never about providing anything for anybody. It was simply another failed socialist plan to take money from the "evil rich" and encourage millions of sheep who don't see anything beyond the "free healthcare" tagline to fall under greater government control.  How do you control voters? Make them dependent on you for basic needs.  It's in the playbook.

I heard the argument made yesterday that free healthcare is an inalienable right and should be constitutionally guaranteed.  That astounds me. How have we transitioned from rugged individuality and a strong sense of personal accountability to this pampered state of entitlement in the span of a generation?

What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American.

It pisses me off that we are stuck with a 2 party system.  It really does.

With that said, taking ALL parties out, "more government" should never be the answer.  Subsidies are simply the reaching arm of the government reaching further than they should.

Pretty much what he said in bold. It was a wealth redistribution from the haves to the have nots. Via the subsidies. Nothing was done to solve anything healthcare related the major thing being the actual cost of healthcare. In a perfect world we wouldn't need insurance for most things. Only catastrophic. But.....costs. No one likes to address it.
