Clay has beaten this drum for a long time. I once thought it was his way of hitting back for being rejected by ESPN brass. Maybe it still is. I have a hard time following his logic completely here though. Seems like a well-written case of false equivalency.

This has been a hot topic on much of the sports talk shows today and much of what I've heard has called the Times out on it.  However, I have to say it's rare to see this type of response.  At least have to give a smidge of credit.

By midmorning Thursday, Jason Stallman, the Times’ sports editor, had taken responsibility for the tweet in an email to The Post. “Bad tweet by me. Terrible tweet. I wish I could say it’s complicated, but no, this one is pretty straightforward: I’m an idiot. It was my idea, it was my execution, it was my blunder. I made a decision in about four minutes that clearly warranted much more time.

“Once we learned more, we tried to fix everything as much as possible as swiftly as possible and as transparently as possible. Of course, at that point the damage was done. I just needed to own it.”

Problem is it doesn't matter. The damage was done. The incorrect tweet will reach thousands more than the apology. And he got it wrong slanting left, so there will be no one calling for his job or making him be accountable the next time.

I was curious how MSNBC would play it. I was watching the broadcast.  Listening to Brian Williams.  Hearing him bemoan the fact that the terrorist attack was taking attention away from "earthshattering" news about Trump.

I like to watch Fox and CNN to get different perspectives and last night was no different. I had to chuckle last night as all this was coming down when watching CNN's Don Lemon. His first question to a guy he had on from England was, "The police say they are investigating this as a terrorist attack, why is that?"

That's usually what I do.  I'll watch Fox and then either CNN or MSNBC just to see how each plays it.
