You know, I've been pretty realistic about my Bravos for this season. I thought with half decent pitching and a fairly decent starting line up, they could probably go .500 with a bright future. No bigee. Competitive. Fun to watch.

But holy haysus and Christ on a cracker, why the hell did they sign Bartolo Colon? Go back through the posts. I railed against it. Why??? Why would the Braves or anyone sign this guy. He's 44 (FORTY FOUR). He's 5' 11" 285. He's horrible. Now, going into tonight's game against the Angels, he's 2-5 with a 6.96 ERA. Pujolz just took him deep for a 3 run homer to go up 3-2 in the 3rd. Fucking really?

He's 44. We signed him.

Disagree. Very little separation between top and bottom. I think that division is a group of solid teams. Nobody has decided to step up yet or maybe, just haven't put it together. Could make for a crazy good season in the Central. Fun to watch!

You guys stopped the bleeding tonight with a win over a very talented and hot team. Martinez was damn good tonight and he's got an ERA right at 3.00.

Lots of issues with the Cards. Can't hit for shit, and on the off chance that they do get a hit, they usually have a baserunning gaffe. Add to the fact that Matheny can't figure out how to use a bullpen, and you have a starting pitching staff that is one of the best in the NL, but a .500 record.

Yesterday, the Cards beat the Dodgers 2-0. Wainwright (thanks, Atlanta) went 6 IP, and lowering his ERA over his last 4 starts to .03. Also, he hit a 2 run HR. It was the first time in Cardinal history that the Cards won a shutout, where all RBI were accounted for by the pitcher hitting a home run.

Cards next head to the friendly confines...

Matt Adams saved our bacon today. A grand salami and the game winning solo homer in extra innings for the win. Hasn't been hitting for a very good average but the production has definitely been there.

The Cardinals' farm system might rank closer to the middle of the pack, but they have a lot of depth and could meet the Blue Jays' asking price. St. Louis has a high floor due to a spread of good players across the diamond, but the Cardinals need to increase their ceiling if they want to be on the same talent level as the defending champion Cubs. If Donaldson becomes available, trading for him is a move the Cardinals need to make.
