Ex Auburn QB approved for Pinson Valley job
By Erik Harris, The North Jefferson News  Jan 24, 2017

Former Scottsboro head coach Patrick Nix has been approved by the Jefferson County Board of Education to be Pinson Valley’s next head football coach.

Bo Nix, son of new Pinson Valley head coach Patrick Nix, was a Class 5A Back of the Year finalist as a sophomore last season at Scottsboro.

The Jefferson County Board of Education approved Patrick Nix as Pinson Valley's next head football coach on Thursday morning.

Eight weeks after former Indians’ head coach Matt Glover was dismissed from the program, Nix has been chosen as his successor.

Nix, a former record-setting quarterback at Auburn, led Scottsboro to a 28-18 mark over the last four seasons. The Wildcats reached the Class 5A quarterfinals in 2016, eventually falling 49-28 at state runner-up Wenonah. That was Nix’s only loss of the year.

Before entering the Alabama high school ranks, Nix worked as an assistant in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Etowah grad served as offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech from 2004 to ’06 and at Miami from 2007 to ’08. He began his coaching career as an offensive assistant at Jacksonville State University in the late 1990’s.

Nix brings with him a son. The 6-foot-1 Class of 2019 signal caller is sure to bring competition to Pinson Valley’s quarterback situation, to say the least. Bo Nix, who started for Scottsboro as an eighth-grader, will enter his junior season with multiple Power-5 scholarship offers, including Auburn, Florida State and Tennessee.

Bo, Scottsboro’s all-time leader in passing yards and completions, finished last season as a Class 5A Back of the Year finalist. He went 101-of-183 through the air for 1,737 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also showed value as a runner with 1,300 yards and 20 scores on the year.

Upcoming senior Jackie Matthews has quarterbacked Pinson Valley’s offense over the last three years. With two experienced quarterbacks on the roster, spring camp should be interesting in the Valley.

Speaking of ex-AU-QB's, this may have been posted on here a while back.  If so, I forgotted it.  From the wikis on Barrett Trotter.

He is currently entering his fourth season with the Los Angeles Rams and second as an Offensive Assistant. Trotter is responsible for breaking down film of upcoming opponents, self scouting the Rams Offense, leading the Scout Team Defense in practice, as well as assisting with the team’s quarterbacks.

Trotter originally joined the Rams in 2013 and worked for two years in a dual capacity with Football Operations and as a Scouting Assistant. In this role, Trotter evaluated players and was responsible for gathering and tracking player information in preparation for the NFL Draft. Additionally, he helped coordinate daily football operations as well as the team’s travel, serving as the advance point person for all of the Rams’ road trips.

How cool would that gig be?

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

Sounds like a good thing.  I keep hearing great things about Bo, and going to a larger market he should face some tougher competition to make him better.  Hopefully he will be the next great QB in line after he finishes as an Indian.

He was on the yearly HBO series Hard Knocks this past season (which was the Rams).  Him and Jeff Fisher's  son Trent were good friends at Auburn.

Sounds like that friendship paid well for Trotter.

Why would you not be happy? Nix got burned hitching his wagon to Randy Shannon, prior to that he had been building a decent reputation as an OC.

It is a good thing but as you know being on the other end of Deerfoot as you, we have to play those guys yearly. That means I will have to root against Nix that one game. Should make for a more interesting ball game for years to come.

Selfish reasoning. See response above. Actually, I'm glad for him just hate Clay-Chalkville will have to play them now because of the rivalry already established.

7A, bishes...

I just wish those Huskies hadn't of backed out of playing the Cougars. You guys might have actually won this year..... :poke:

Gonna be interesting though. With Trussville, Clay and Pinson being so damn close to each other, there should be some great HS football goings on.
