Psychedelic Coats & WakeyLeaks
« on: December 16, 2016, 12:06:30 PM »
A couple of things that have gone on, one of which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned.  Long time side line reporter, mostly for the NBA, Craig Sager passed away.  His fight with cancer was well publicized and he handled it in a very similar manner as Pittsburgh Panther RB, James Conner.  Not that Sager was doing agility drills at 5:00 a.m., but he was getting tons of chemo and doing everything in his power to get to work.  Stayed extremely positive and was obviously loved by a lot of folks in the sports world.

But the Wake Forest deal.  Holy crap, that's about to blow up big time.  Unless it doesn't.  I think that what we're going to find, and what is starting to be mentioned and/or speculated, is that this guy, Tommy Elrod, had a gambling problem.  Probably more like gambling debt, and was doing this to handle that debt.  Either way, people do stupid shit.  What I'm more concerned about is to what extent opposing teams used this info.  So far, it looks like Louisville, Army and VT have owned up to receiving stuff from Elrod.  Certainly, more will follow.

First off, I know it's just Wake Forest.  Why anyone would need help to stroke them anyway is beyond me.  But that's not the point.  If you know that someone from the opposing team's program is feeding you information that would give you an advantage, and you use it...I've got a huge problem with that.  This may sound like splitting hairs, but I have no problem at all with stealing signs in baseball (A big no-no in MLB) or figuring out what those dumbass cards mean in college football.  If you're not smart enough to change your signs and signals up and the opposing team figures them out, that's on you.  But this is different in my book.

What say you?

I could see if it was a perennial power and you were their biggest rival, you might say "aw hells yeah!  I'll take them plays and we gonna beat the hell outta you."  Otherwise, why risk your own job?

Seriously, that makes no sense...especially with it being Wake Forest.  I suppose they figured they could almost name a score and place their bets to make a little extra coin on the side, but really?

And in other college foosballz/sports tidbits, the Minnesota Golden Rodents are boycotting anything football.(Which I thought they'd been doing that for years) 10 players were suspended after a supposed Title IX investigation into allegations from a woman claiming they pulled a train on her.  Originally, she called the po-po but one of the players had filmed it and the man basically said, "Looks like she's good with it to me".

Won't miss Sager.  Not because he wasn't a great guy (seems like folks loved him) or because he won't be here to serve as Buzz's fashion muse, but because I only notice the especially bad broadcasters.  Otherwise they're white noise at best.

Sort of agree with your point re: Wake.  I don't have any problem with deciphering signals during the course of a game or through legit film study.  If you pay for, sneak a drone over the field, or otherwise obtain evidence of the signals/plays, though, you've cheated.  That's some bullshit and Wake didn't need any help in getting beat.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

In regard to the Minnesota deal...sounds like she was good with a threesome, just not a twelvesome.  How do you honestly handle a situation like that.  Girl wanted to have at least one hole unused?

Was listening to ESPN's, Bomani Jones, the other day and he was ripping the Gopher players for the boycott.  Without going into graphic detail, the jist of his take was, whether this woman was willing or not, your boys pulled a train on her and that's what your taking a stand for.

As my grandfather used to say "you gotta stand for something, or you'll never get to pull a train fall for anything."

As I'm sure you lawyers know, just because she looks good with it during the act doesn't mean it can't be charged as rape/assault.

I do agree with the players though that if the 10 players weren't charged or declared guilty, they shouldn't be suspended. I know it's all about press coverage and maintaining a positive reputation, but if there's nothing in the conduct book that says players can't engage in particular consensual sex acts, they shouldn't be suspended.

You can't cover everything in the conduct book. Sometimes, common sense has to be the guide.

Just because you can't be charged and prosecuted for something, that doesn't mean it wasn't wrong.  I really don't understand this kind of nonsense, or maybe I'm part gay or something.  I mean, how far back in the line do you have to be before you decide - you know what, she looks a little worn out, think I'll take a pass?

Wrong determined by whom? The law? Oklahoma's student conduct policy? Or Hogwally's personal feelings?

Add to this most of the ones that I have seen from that area I'm not really sure that I even want to be first in line.
