AND ANOTHER THING
This is all driven by the media's ri-fucking-diculous coverage of Ike. Ike is a big storm. It's going to cause some damage. But it's not Katrina. It's not Andrew. It's not Camille. It's not Betsy. This is a typical Cat 2 (maybe MAYBE 3 by landfall) storm that is going to fuck up the city on the coastline and knock out power for a little while. The oil problems will be fixed in a week or two.
However, we're treated to "IKE BRINGS CERTAIN DEATH" and MSNBC's "IT'S TIME FOR PRAYERS."
Now, everyone thinks the USA is out of oil. Kentucky has declared a state of emergency.
Maybe now's a good time to look at drilling off the coast of California and in Alaska. You know, those are places that don't get fucked by hurricanes every summer.
Wow, you'd think you were from East Texas about to lose their shit, as opposed to someone sitting in their cushy home drinking a cool beverage watching football Saturday.... I mean since you're downplaying what they should be feeling and going through right now. Also, while it's NOT Katrina and all the Hurricanes you mentioned, it IS hitting more refineries and shutting them down where Katrina didn't hit the Texas coast and said refineries. I hear ya though.... get pissed about it. Good approach.
Just pickin' at ya.... don't get mad...
I agree with much of what you're saying, but I'm not sure Texan's with families would share your cavalier and calloused approach... Besides, most of the headlines and media treatment are in an effort to NOT downplay. In fact, it's in a total effort to scare the shit out of people enough so they get the fuck out first, instead of finding out that maybe it was worse than they thought when it's too late. It's in an effort to educate and prompt people in future storms that Hurricanes are nothing to fuck with. It's pretty much common sense....
Just sayin....
