ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two people were arrested and charged in connection to selling counterfeit DVDs and CDs, Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said.
“Anita Marie Blount, 52, Gadsden, and William Ray Otwell, 42, Attalla, were arrested Friday, August 12, and each charged with one count of sale/rental of pirated recording and one count of manufacturer name required on recording package,†Captain Josh Morgan said.
The sheriff’s office said the two are accused of selling counterfeit DVDs and CDs at Poor Man’s Trade Day in East Gadsden. Homeland Security investigators and the sheriff’s office seized over 10,000 items. Several disc burners and computer equipment were found at the two homes.
The arrests come after a tip about counterfeit items being sold from a citizen. An undercover employee of the sheriff’s office bought items from both suspects, Entrekin said, before the seizure took place.
