Watched a little of the Broncos/Patriots game. I'm just not feeling the Broncos.
Maybe I'm just misreading this thing but Peyton looked really old and feeble. The Patriot defense isn't on the same level as Carolina. Manning floats up those wobbly ducks against the Panthers and they're not going to land. They're going to get smacked down. He only threw the ball 32 times and completed just 17 of those. The 15 misses looked shit-tacular.
On the flip side I saw Carolina's numerous interceptions. And also the four or five others they could/should have had.
I realize the primary storyline is Peyton going out on top, the old general, end of an era blah blah blah. I think he's got a realistic chance to look like an old man and get clubbed like a baby seal. If Peyton tries to run? Some Panther is going to break him in half like peanut brittle.
Denver could tee off on Brady because New England's running game was next to last in the NFL. They could not run the ball against ANYBODY. Brady threw 56 passes. Fifty six in that one game. The Pats only ran the ball 17 times, three of those on Brady scrambles. Brandon Bolden was 40th in the AFC in rushing. He trailed Blake Bortles. And Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was New England's best option. And still the Patriots had 20 first downs to Denver's 12, 336 yards to Denver's 244. If Saban Clone kicks a field goal or two, Denver goes down in flames.
New England was completely one-dimensional. Brady to Gronk was ALL they had. Stopping a one-dimensional offense is one thing. That's not going to be the case for Carolina. If they try to bum rush Cam? Stewart's going to have 300 yards.
In the last eight games of the season Denver played two teams that ranked in the top ten in rushing yards. They lost both of those games. Carolina ranks first by a pretty wide margin.
Denver hasn't scored more than 24 points in regulation since November 1. Didn't score more than 24 in regulation but twice all season.
Carolina scored less than 27 only three times. First two games of the year and then the "Cam just had a baby" loss to the Falcons.
Means nothing, but it's gonna be interesting. Denver won't outscore the Panthers, they have to hope the defense can keep Carolina under three scores or so.
