Something I don't understand
« on: November 11, 2015, 04:25:34 PM »
Alabama loses at home to a barely mediocre Ole Miss team. They look like lukewarm shit in doing so.  That loss is excused and forgotten.  They're number two.   LSU loses on the road in a hostile environment.  That loss bounces them from consideration.  What the fuck?  In the pantheon of losses, which is worse?  Let's assume for the sake of argument that both teams win out.  Alabama -- which lost to Ole Miss -- is GOAT!! LSU, which beat Ole Miss but lost at Alabama is an also ran?  That's some bullshit right there.

All Alabama has left is MSU and us.  Fuck them.

I do not think Alabama is the second best team in the country. Top ten maybe but they get a pass by front of the jersey loving sports wanks.

The Playoff Rankings are not so much of a poll as it is a TV show. Like any TV show, ratings are what they want. Getting people hot and bothered because Bama is ranked too high or not high enough is good for ratings or so they believe.

I fully believe that if Ole miss would have won out that Alabam would have made the playoff sitting at home while Ole Miss played in Atlanta. The sad part is this probably would've happened.

When has it been any different for them?
Only in the Tuberville era when they were struggling and on probation.

They get a mulligan, the benefit of the doubt. Almost every blueblood (as they are considered) gets a pass especially when a loss happens early in the season.

See AU 2013 v. LSU.

But that was Malzahn's first season. Now he's laid a few eggs. Lack's consistency.

I'm a full-on conspiracy theorist when it comes to the playoff rankings.

It's a bunch of old white men, Conda-Alabama Rice, and Token. The majority of the committee are exactly the people I don't want to see making rankings. Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are in over Iowa, Baylor, and Oklahoma State. Why? Eyeball test? No. You know why.

Oklahoma State just beat TCU, who was undefeated with the leading Heisman trophy candidate.  Where are they ranked? #8.

Notre Dame on the other hand has beaten the worst Texas team in 20 years and a USC team that had to fire its alcoholic head coach. Yet Notre Dame is #4.

The common complaint about Iowa and Baylor is that those two teams have played a weak schedule, yet Ohio State's only barely respectable win is against Penn State.

So much like last year, I have no reason to think that the playoff committee cares about the four best teams because they most likely don't know how to assess who the four best teams are. The criteria is most likely money driven and based on tradition, which is why Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame are in the top four.

Its a direct setup to get the 4 super powers in there.

OSU, Bama, USC and ND.

3 of 4 aint bad. They essentially setup a playoff/elimination game with Bama/LSU in the last one knowing Bama would be able to win at home thus excusing their earlier loss. LSU has gotten fucked by this "mulligans for Bama" system. They are going to will those 3 teams in. Clemson, Okl State, and Baylor and simply getting in the way.

I'm gonna' go the other direction here.  I have no problem with 3 of the top 4.  ND is the one that I really question.

Clemson: Undefeated.  Beat the Golden Homos and FSU.  Are they #1?  Meh, doesn't matter.  They're top 4 and as deserving as any of them.

THE Ohio State University:  Have they played a tough schedule to this point?  Nope.  Nobody is going to argue they have.  The reality is that when they went to a playoff committee, they brought the human element back into play.  Remember the polls?  You absolutely, 100% cannot avoid having "the eye test" and some bias involved in ranking these teams.  tOSU is the defending MNC.  They haven't lost since like the first game of LAST YEAR.  Beating Alabama and crushing a Duck is still fresh on people's minds.  Honestly, if I was on the committee, I'd have them top 4 too.

TURDS:  As much as I hate it, I think they're a top 4 team and have as good a resume as anybody right now.  Yes, they lost to OM.  But, the reality here is you can't say the SEC and particularly the West is the greatest conference in the history of the world and then discount a team completely because they slipped up once. Are the fighting Blackbars a top 10 team?  Nope.  But damn talented across the board and if you cough it up 5 times against them, you will lose 96% or 274/296th of the time.  Still kept it to 6 points.  Otherwise, they've beaten a top 25 Cheeseheads, curb stomped Georgia in Athens when they were undefeated and top 10, and bitch slapped the #2 rated team with a back that had run for 4,521 yards.

As for Okie State:  Did they just stick a foot up the ass of Boykin and the toads?  Absolutely!  I watched it and they looked good....that game.  So, if you're on the committee, is that enough to put them in or near the top 4?  Not if I'm on it.

Central Michigan
Central Arkansas
UTSA Roadrunners
Texas (won by 3)
KSU (won by 2)
WVU (won by 7)
Kansas
Texas Tech (won but allowed 53 points)
TCU

Can you really look at that schedule and results and say they're kept out by bias?

Baylor:  Eye test says they're the new Oregon.  Schedule says the teams they've played are a combined 27-49.

What about Iowa?  Not the strongest of schedules, but then again look at the above statements.  If Michigan St runs the table the rest of the way do they make it in?

Oh I agree.  Just sayin' that I'm okay with the rankings based on the body of work up until this point. A lot is going to change and teams like Baylor are actually going to start playing somebody from here on.

Watched some of the Ole Miss v. Arkansas debacle again.

The SEC did not want Ole Miss to finish ahead of Alabama in the West.  Arkansas was going to win no matter what.
