Positives:
The D held a decent offense to 21. Forced several turnovers and basically was the difference in the game.
I thought it was a good move putting McKinzy at more of a stand up DE. He's 250+ and may be somewhat of an answer for getting some pressure in the backfield.
Some very young guys have been getting a ton of experience. I'm not holding that out as an excuse. Saying it because it's a fact and there's some guys I'm looking forward to seeing what they can/will do in the future. Kerryon luggage continues to get more touches and looks more confident each game. Cowart made a few things happen on D. Carlton Davis is taking some lumps as a true freshman corner, but you can tell this kid is a balla.
Barber was his consistent, hard running self. Nice to see him break one and barring injury, he'll get his 1,000.. I thought he and Roc both looked good.
Countess surprised me on the opening kick off. Good speed. He and Rudi should be handling all return duties from here on out.
Put it on the ground a couple of times but for the most part, real good ball security.
It was a win.
Negatives:
Play calling, first and foremost. Very uninspiring. That worries me more than anything else with this team going forward. It really looks like they went into a shell and acted like we're going to do the bare minimum to beat this team. Sean White was 6-10 for 109 yards. We have very talented skill players all over the field and they are making almost zero attempts to get them involved. No slants. No digs. No crossing routes. It's either some form of bubble screen or heave it long. Not calling for JJ to return but why even replace him if all you're going to do is hand the ball off 90% of the time? Tubber Tuckerville can do that just as good as SW can. Really head scratching.
While the D did play hard and was very opportunistic with the turnovers, they were very soft in the middle. Yes, that 170 pound back was shifty and quick and hard to get a good shot at. But they were blowing us off the ball and it was 3-4 yards past the line of scrimmage before we'd get a hand on him. What that did in turn, was allowed Borges to open up the play book. He made some really good calls, but he was able to when we had to respect the run so much. Don't know how or if that can be fixed.
