Boxing is dead
« on: May 04, 2015, 01:14:54 AM »
I got caught up in it.  Was in New Orleans this weekend and felt enough of the hype to go to Harrahs and jostle with a bunch of assclowns in an oversold standing room only melee to see Manny and Money in the ring.

What a joke.

Let me get the racism out of the way first.

a) The room was pretty divided. Every single "african american" was raising hell for Mayweather. Everybody else in the room was against him.  When the fight was over, the thug yelling "fuck ya'll bitches, money the man" was about to see if an older guy could whip his ass in a more exciting version of the non-brawl we'd seen on TV.  Thanks to the people I was with who recognized my expired fuse and a couple of his friends who saw what was about to happen and folded his ass into the crowd, the fight never happened.  Just like the one we were supposed to watch I guess.
b) Every single time Manny tagged Mayweather the bitch was allowed to wrap him up and stay that way for a while.  Long enough to give him a chance to clear his head at least.  I got sick of watching the hugs and headlocks while the referee stood with his finger up his ass.  The one time Manny tried to go for a clinch, though, that "african american" fuck referee had them broken up before he'd barely reached out.  And then let Mayweather land a punch in the break (one of the three or four punches the rat bastard threw all fight).

Now, the "fight" itself.   I've seen more action at the Ryans Buffet line when there was only one salisbury steak left and two grandmas had their forks set on it.

I saw some bullshit compubox stat that said Mayweather threw something like 450 punches and landed 35% of them.  Horseshit.  He threw maybe half a dozen.

Fuck boxing.   I knew by the third round it was over unless Pac knocked the fuckstick out.  He wasn't going to win on points.  There was no reason whatsoever for the judges to have it three straight rounds for Mayweather when he'd done nothing but duck, dodge and run.

The sport is ruined.  What I wasted my $30 on this weekend was an epic dud.

Now I'm hearing Pac had a busted shoulder and some bullshit from Mayweather's camp denied him treatment.

All I know is I saw to tentative pussies trying their best not to lose.

I don't care if Mayweather retires undefeated.  He will never be in the circle of all time greats that includes Ali, Frazier, Marciano, Lewis, Tyson....  He's just a pussy punk.  I'd like to fight his ass.  Give me $2 million and I'll get in there and pin his mouthy little body against the ropes and punch him until he breaks or I get tired.

I didn't see the fight and don't think I would have watched it had it been on ESPN.  I knew this fight was going to be exactly what it turned out to be. Mayweather is a quick, defensive specialist who does what K just said. Throw a punch or two and clench 74 times per round.  Packee-Yow is way past his prime and had no chance of knocking him out.  Thus, 12 rounds of yawn.  Yep, boxing is dead and I don't know that it can be revived.

It used to be the heavyweights.  Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, etc.  Then the welterweights took over.  You want to talk about some of the most action packed fights ever put on.  Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hit Man Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Hands of Stone Duran, Wilfred Benitez...

None of them liked each other. All had "Knock you the F out" power and all of them came in to the ring to put on a show. And they normally delivered.

My question though is, "What about Rocky Marciano?"

This is what I pictured. Thanks for putting it in words.

This is gone. And that is why MMA has had its meteoric rise. Boxing dropped the ball.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

MMA surpassed boxing on the mainstream about 5 years ago like a flash. This tells me er'body was sick of boxing and no one trusted it. Also that the career lifespan of a MMA fighter is much shorter so you constantly have new faces that are hungry for a belt.

It was a sport rarely seen on television before the '70s. And if you followed it, you listened on the radio.

Not entertaining and hasn't been for me since Leonard-Duran.

I remembered the Hagler-Hearns battle.  Watching that on YouTube led me to some other fights of that era.

That brings me to Sugar Ray Leonard.

That was some bullshit there.  Hagler beat his ass and the judges gave the fight to Sugar Ray.  Hearns whipped his sugary ass and the judges called it a draw.  I know Ray was a goodstylish fighter.  But until the end of his career he seemed to get special treatment and picked up some wins he didn't deserve.

I also didn't know that Ray knocked out Floyd's silverback father in 1978.  (Howard Cosell noted that 'I told you Floyd Mayweather cannot hurt you...'  late in the fight.  Similar to his son, apparently).  Ray did to daddy floyd what I expected Manny to do to the punk ass son.
