Reggie Ragland walked into the media room at the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility on Monday night, with a wrestling belt draped over his shoulder. It was a championship belt for his performance in the Crimson Tide’s first spring scrimmage on Friday afternoon in which the rising senior finished a dominating performance with five tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. He held the belt up high for everyone to read its words.“On the belt is says ‘Ball Out Champ,’ Ragland said. “Whoever is ballin’ that day is the champ.â€The championship belt, the idea of the Crimson Tide coaches, is awarded after scrimmages, according to Ragland, and is given to the defensive player who attempts to strip the football or knock the ball down and cause turnovers when the team goes through a scrimmage inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.“The coaches (thought of it), because a lot of people weren’t really stripping at the ball this past season and we had a down year with turnovers,†Ragland said. “That gave the coaches an idea for guys to start getting after the ball and get the ball out.â€
