I talked to a buddy who is a Veteran, fought in Afgan & Iraq, 20yrs in the Marines. He started crying from laughter when I told him the story about the Auburn player's verbal altercation with the female student saying that she's a Veteran and her sister saying that she fought for that player's freedom, etc, etc, etc. He was like, "this made the news? There's so much shit going on right now that trumps any of that fuckin garbage, I guess they're handing out Vet cards to everyone now, regardless if they actually served real time in the military...what's next siblings and children of the Soldiers going to be considered Vets too? She must have some scandalous photos of someone high up or something to get that kind of treatment and to still want more than what she has already gotten, that's sad, because there are soldiers coming back with some real, I mean real, real problems and they aren't getting half of what she'll get...and they actually participated."
I ask him if I should consider myself a Veteran, because I don't. I told him I was AFR for 4 years, never jumped the pond, but was activated nearly every year for a few weeks at a time. He said, "you're damn sure more of a Veteran than she is." I told him I'm not going to say that I am, because I don't feel as I was.

I wouldn't consider her a Vet when compared to those that served in actual combat but fwiw by Federal definition she is considered a Vet. I was going to argue the point with someone on the bookface but realized I was wrong.

Yea I agree. I think most any of us to her face would tell her that shes full of shit but by the letter of the law she is.

Even if you don't consider yourself a veteran Prowler, I feel safer knowing that if they ever need to reactivate you for a secret mission, that you are on standby.

Did she ever actually complete basic? It sounds like her "wimminz troubles" began during basic and while I don't recall right now, I'm not sure if I remember that she ever finished.

She joined the Air Force, I could complete basic AF today.

And no she did not finish, calling her a Vet is like calling a 16 year old a Porn Star. Just cause you fooled around a little don't make you star.

According to what I found out:

AF says you don't have to finish basic, just have to be in active military for 180 days.

There is some discrepancy with the Marines and Army saying your 180 days start until after basic, but I haven't found anything conclusive.

Besides if she is getting treatment by the VA the Obamas view her as a Vet.

What I find equally interesting is that the VA does not pay for service dogs for PTSD. I wonder where she got hers. There are private groups that provide PTSD service dogs for those who qualify. (Paws & Stripes being one.)

There's also a lot of folks running around out there with fake service dogs so they can get benefits and be able to take their dog into restaurants and stuff.

Wouldn't THAT be an interesting twist...
