ULM football players might be underdogs to Auburn this weekend, but they aren’t awestruck.
We’ve all got scholarships,” free safety Greg James said during ULM’s game-week news conference today. “I could have been there, but I’m here. Going against those guys like them is no different than going against the guys we have here.”
The Warhawks open their 2008 season Saturday at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium, which seats 87,514. Ranked No. 10 and 11 in the AP and USA Today polls,
Auburn is favored by four touchdowns over ULM. “People are entitled to their own opinion,” said Kinsmon Lancaster, ULM’s third-year starter at quarterback. “We’ve just got to go out and play and prove them wrong.”
ULM, which is 0-6 in its series with Auburn, plays three of the six teams in the SEC West this season. The Warhawks face Arkansas in the second game in Little Rock, Ark., and go to Ole Miss on Nov. 15.
“It’s finally come,” ULM running back Frank Goodin said. “I feel as though we’ve prepared well for them. We’re just looking to start off well.”
