I sampled King Cakes from a lot of places around here. Had two made by specialty shops, tried Winn Dixie, Publix, Piggly Wiggly, Wal Mart/Sams, and Panera.

But the best I've had so far? Rouses Grocery. And it's not close.

I still have to hit Pohlmans in Mobile and Sweetie Pies in Gulf Shores before the contest is over, but it will be hard for either to top Rouses. Damn fine King Cake.

So I have heard, re: Rouses. Pohlmans hard to beat. This one is a Randazzo's from camellia city bakery in Slidell. Damn fine cake. I wish it were never gifted to me.

Is it because adults make deals and kids just love AU?
