Breakdown:

Offense

O-Linemen: 4 (If Horton stays on that side)
Pass Catchers: 2 or 3 if Jason Smith moves to WR
Running Backs: 3 BTDub, watch Chandler Cox' film. He invites a lot of people to IHop
Pass Throwers: 2 since Smith is supposed to get his shot
Tight End: 1

Defense

D-Linemen: 4 or 5 depending on Horton
Linebackers: 3 or 4 if you count Atkinson. Prolly a DB at 200 lbs.
Defensive Backs: 6 if you include Atkinson

And one guy to punt the touchdowns.

I'd say we filled some needs and added depth on offense. But Malzahn went all Captain Obvious and said we don't play D, we don't win championships.

A couple things to note, this is the first time in Rivals history that Auburn landed the #1 High School prospect...also the first time in Rivals and Auburn's history that we've landed the #1 HS prospect and #1 JUCO prospect in the same class.

Just using Rivals rankings, there's a few semi interesting things of note.

Bama dethroned as the king of recruiting. USC ranked #1. They'll still claim the crystal as long as someone has them #1.

SEC had 6 of the top 10 and 11 of the top 25. Keep a rollin' baby.

FSU and Climpsum at 3 and 4. Top heavy ACC because the rest of the conference blew chunks.

Props to the Vols. They showed some life last year and with a top 5 class, looks like Jones is building something.

Oregon at 17. About where they always are. They'll just be so fast again.

The U at 26. How irrelevant has that program become?

Michigan at 49. Only signed 14 players. Wussup widdat?

Okay, someone splain' how Army signed 59 players. Not a misprint. I pulled them up. 59. On a side note, a local kid from Providence Christian signed with them. 6'4" 270 Rowan Godwin.

The other local guy I kept up with, Jamarius Henderson, signed with Memphis. All time leading rusher in the state. Heck of a defensive player. Kid is a baller. Ask K. Had to be some issues. Grades? Have no idea.

Here's ny take on Cowart after reading that article:

Coach made that crack about his son still having a job at Florida even if Cowart went to Auburn.

Betcha that LOI fax was on hold until Diddy made sure Junior was still gold.

UPDATE: Just read that the son is the BRAND NEW DB coach for the Gusty Gaytors. No way that wasn't some sort of package deal. Only problem: only one half of the package got delivered. My theory is looking better and better.

Getting the #1 HS prospect doesn't excite me as much as getting the #1 DE in the country. Couple this with Carl "Slingblade" Lawson and I am getting a bit trembley. We could have gotten the #1 anything else and I'm not sure I would have been as excited.

This be troof. Our problems all started on the defensive front last season. Zero Pass rush and quite honestly, that big ole group of seniors in the middle did nothing. It was a joke by season's end.
