Too late
« on: January 29, 2015, 12:35:28 PM »
Most of us prob remember his dad. A great player. Recruiting is tricky with timing being a critical factor in many instances. I would've thought with this kid being a legacy that we could sway him. Anyway, I'm assuming this offer likely means that we don't feel like we are getting the complete package deal and Jefferson is going to UF or OM as has been widely rumored.

Hopefully, we still land Holland and Cowart. I don't know who else is in the balance besides the OT Ivey, who appears to be leaning to UF from what I've gathered.

http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2015/01/legacy_gg_robinson_says_auburn.html
It's too little, too late for G.G. Robinson.

With National Signing Day right around the corner, Auburn attempted a late push for the three-star defensive end prospect. Robinson hosted Auburn assistants Lance Thompson and Rodney Garner Tuesday and received an offer Wednesday night during a call from Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn.

However, it no longer appears Auburn will be a factor in Robinson's recruitment. His father, Gerald, played at Auburn in the 1980s and holds the school's career sack record, but the family connection to the Plains is not enough.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound standout from Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., has been committed to Louisville since August 2014.

Coaches from Louisville, Florida and Missouri all visited Robinson yesterday. He has already taken official visits to Louisville, Missouri, Iowa State and Kansas State.

"He's got a lot of action going on," Robinson's coach, Eric Godfree, told AL.com Wednesday. "He's been committed to Louisville for a long time and is still strong to Louisville, but with schools like Auburn, Florida and Missouri coming on strong, you can tell it's tugging at his heart.

"I think he knows less than he did this time last week."

Robinson is ranked as the nation's No. 34 defensive end in the 247Sports Composite. Auburn remains in play with several other defensive ends, including Byron Cowart, CeCe Jefferson, Terry Beckner Jr. and Prince Tega Wanogho Jr.

The problem is with signing day just a few days away, a lot of these schools have to start making contingency plans. I believe we have 21 verbals so a good many slots left to fill.  Part of me gets the 10 minutes of fame thing with these kids and so many of them are going to do the signing day press conference thing.  But it puts schools like Auburn in a predicament of having to take a chance on offering a 3 star when the 4 and 5 star guys you've been targeting have to play the look at me game.

I wasn't very highly recruited coming out of high school so I don't know what these guys are going through. Oh sure, DeVry and Phoenix were bombarding me with offers, but I flew under the radar for the most part. However, I think most of these kids know full well who they're going to sign with.  So stop dragging it out.  Hold your little press conference already and let the chips fall where they may.

That's funny.  24/7 reported that he never got a call from Muschamp on Wednesday and that is why they passed on.

I also read that he was supposed to have a commitable offer on Wednesday and didn't have one before. It sounds to me like this was a contingency plan. We either didn't want to give up on the best option Wednesday or got word Wednesday the kid we wanted was coming. Either way, this isn't a bad thing.

Yeah, makes me wonder if we feel good about Cowart or that Key kid.

I don't read too much into offering or not offering Robinson.  We've got 8 commitments right now that are defensive players and only 2 of those are D-linemen.  Not highly rated linemen to boot.  We need numbers so I would imagine they'd take every one of the linemen they're after, including Robinson, if they'd commit.  So far:

Tim Michael Irvin  DB  5'8" 182  4*

Maurice Come On Swain II  DT  6'5" 297  3*

Montavious Atkinson Diet  LB  6'1" 205 3*

Jordan Steve Colbert  DB  6'2" 205  4*

His Mama Call Him Jauntavius...I'ma Call Him Jauntavius Johnson  DT  6'3" 323  3*

Prophet Elijah Sullivan  LB  6'1" 204  3*

Darrell From Georgia Williams  LB  6'2" 225  4*

Richard....I got nuthin' McBryde  LB  6'2" 210  4*

I've heard a lot about the possibility of Kerryon Luggage Johnson being put at DB given the relatively stacked backfield.  I'd feel better about that than Trovon My Year Reed.  Johnson has played there and played well.

This^^.  With the addition of Williams and McBryde, we'll be fairly skrong at LB for the first time in years.  Holland would just be the Cool Whip on the nipples.

But D-linemen?   Yeah!

I have mixed emotions about this. If the Robinson kid is good enough to play in the SEC, AND his daddy was a standout player at AU. why not take him and show that family really is what we are all about.

I know its not that simple, but its always nice when it is a legacy player.

Same is true about the other kids we are signing. Why not sign the one that brings more AU to the table.

If you actually read the post, I said, if he is good enough to play in the SEC. So with that, we should have at least one recruit that is equal to him and the deciding factor should be the legacy.

Now if he is below what we have, then no, don't go there just to say we did.

Sure...it's all a gamble.  And I'm not saying he isn't good enough for the SEC but his offers aren't  necessarily filled with the majority of the SEC schools.  We came in late to cover some ass.

But the point of your nonsense was something about family, culture and legacy.  Fuck that especially on a kid committed to Louisville.
