Auburn will open spring practices March 10, the earliest start date yet under coach Gus Malzahn.

The start date gives Auburn more than a month of preparation before its annual A-Day spring scrimmage, which is set for April 18 inside Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers usually begin spring practices in the final weeks of March. Auburn's spring practices in 2014 started March 19. Malzahn's first spring practices on the Plains started March 27 in 2013.

Malzahn made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter.

The Tigers will host their annual Pro Day workouts March 3. Several NFL prospects, including Auburn's six Senior Bowl participants, are expected to attend.

Eight newcomers will take the field for the Tigers in the spring, including Jovon Robinson, the favorite to win the starting job at running back. The spring practices will also mark the beginning of the Jeremy Johnson era at quarterback, where the rising junior takes over for departing senior Nick Marshall.
