Payne to Turds
« on: January 03, 2015, 06:31:17 AM »
Starting immediately didn't appeal to him as much as a steady pay check.

We are in trouble.
The core of the defense is as thin as I have ever seen.
Montravious Adams will play on Sundays at end. We generally use him inside.
Carl Lawson is a pass rushing specialist-not a run stopper.

We have a few that can provide some serviceable depth mostly at DE. We basically have two DT's that can play on this level...that's it!

DaVonte Lambert is the only returning true DT that saw any significant playing time.

As it stands we will be stampeeded next season and depending on converted undersized ends who haven't played inside in their life and/or any true freshmen we sign that are willing (not ready) to jump in the fire.

It's dire!

Looks better on paper but we have two (Adams/Lawson) that can seriously play, Daniels who can be good and Lambert who fills in nicely. The rest are unproven if not roster fillers...as in JaBrian Niles?
I'm for finding three DTs, bulking up Russell and platooning the many ends opposite the WDE's  Lawson and Daniels.

It's bad Prowl and we will be lucky if we can keep those (that can actually play) listed above healthy enough to wave bye-bye to an SEC back racking up 100-150 yards on us by halftime. Pass defense might be the least of our worries. No I take that back!

To me some of its coaching stability, we have been through what? 3 Defense coordinators in as many years. Just think as a redshirt freshman in 2011, you would have had Roof, 2012-2013 Johnson and now you have Boom.

1. I wouldn't have been overly excited to get Payne, so I'm not upset to not get him. I think that he's decent but his playing both sides and getting kicked out of AL/MS HS allstar game is telling.
2. I'm not going with jmar's description of "dire". Concerning, yes. But recruiting isn't finished. And the fact that not having Lawson supposedly impacted us so much this year should have as much positive impact next season. Champ also has time to eval and develop pass rushers. I'm more concerned with our front pass rushing than run stopping. I think that the 4-3, along with better LB play, will help alleviate run stop woes. We will simply need the front to eat blocks. Montrae gaining back 30 should help too.

I'm only concerned because recruiting is so often built on momentum and hype.  Chizik's staff were brilliant at maintaining the spotlight during recruiting.  Malzahn hasn't been so much yet.  This is his first full year of recruiting and despite having Garner and Craig on staff, we seem to be behind.

Adding Muschamp IMO should bring in a few more defensive studs.  I would be a bit concerned if we didn't get at least one four star or five star.

It's dire because there are so few quality DT's available this year.

If we can't stop the run how can I best say this? WE WILL REMAIN UGA'S BITCH!
...excluding Super Cam/Fairley and look what I found Louis.
Don't forget our trip to Bielemaville.

You can't hang your hat on freshmen, underdeveloped redshirts and bench numbers, you have to have REAL players.

I don't care for Payne per se but he was on the board of targets, not by me but by Auburn.

Heard this brought up this morning, actually by the Bammer talk show host.  With the Turds signing Taylor, does that affect Daron Payne at all?  He said he's still taking his official visit to the Planes.  I have no doubt they promised him he'll be the man from day 1. (Not that they would ever do that)  Then they go out and sign a 330 pound guy who will probably start.

Not any more playa. Word is that Payne will not take his official next weekend to Alabama and not the previously scheduled Auburn.
