Source: Lawson will return during bowl practice

Carl Lawson will return to the practice fields as Auburn prepares to play Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl, multiple sources confirm to AuburnUndercover.

Lawson, a Freshman All-American from 2013, injured his knee in the spring and missed the entire regular season. Lawson has not participated in a full pads practice since the spring. One source close to Lawson indicates Lawson will "give it a go" when Auburn returns to the practice fields later this month, with another source with intimate knowledge of Lawson's situation confirming Lawson "will practice" in the coming weeks.

Lawson has showed "burst" for the better part of the last month, one source added.

AuburnUndercover reported last month that Lawson had been working individually on the practice fields for weeks and could potentially be in position to return by the Iron Bowl or the bowl game, if Lawson and the Auburn coaches agreed his return was the best decision. Asked on Friday night if Lawson would play in the bowl game if the coaching staff allowed it, one source simply said, "I don't know."

Lawson finished with 7.5 tackles for loss last season and would be in line for a redshirt season if he sits out the bowl game.

Its almost like we should send a letter of apology to Melvin Gordon and Joel Stave for what will happen to them Jan 1st.

If he plays in the bowl game, I will be really pissed.  Waste a year for one unmeaningful game?

Happy to have Lawson returning but I don't think we need him on the field not being in game shape.
Guess we'll see but it's very risky!

Maybe we get some inside help through recruiting.

*from twitter...Muschamp on recruiting clause in contract: If Auburn was previously recruiting guys Florida was recruiting, he can go get 'em for Tigers.

The bright side is that him playing would give him some live action with Muschamp before spring instead of waiting until August to get it. Also, with Auburns pass rush this year, I would be happy just to see him play a 1/2 game.

^^This. With a less likely high draft pick, no. But I would guess Lawson is highly likely 1st and at least 2nd after a year of growth. ESP after a year under Champ/Garner.

That's unpossible.  They're all important.

If he is in game shape, he plays. Period. Everyone that says they'll pissed if he plays needs to realize Lawson wasn't going to be anywhere for four years.
If he doesn't play and takes a redshirt, next season will, more than likely, still be his last.
