Was there not a local high school that could play?

I understand SEC schedule, playing in the SEC west, but there are Div 1 teams that you can pound, rest  your starters. You don't have to play the Mercers of the world who's student pop is around 8000.

Damn it, man.  They're the Bears.  We scheduled a game against Bears.  And they put Duke out of the NCAA tournament. They're Bears, man.  Bears.

Just stay away from Ga Tech and any directional schools in Florida. Still smarting from those catastrophes.

Louisville in the dome could be scary. I hope Bill Clark has us headed in the right direction defensively by then. (or Mike Dubose, Joe Lee Dunn, whoever, but my sources say Bill Clark)

I don't mind scheduling Mercer.  They are in year two and need the money.  If the larger schools like AU don't schedule these smaller guys they don't survive.

Side note that doesn't have anything to do with scheduling but doesn't warrant a thread either. The Iron Bowl this year had over 13.5 million viewers.  The largest college football audience in the history of ESPN.

I believe that little tidbit should be thrown in to all recruiting pitches.  Want to play on the big stage?

Actually the rating only serves to prove how crucial it is for Auburn to get the right guy as the defensive coordinator. There really is no room for failure and if Auburn is going to continue to compete with Alabama it cannot settle for a good hire. This needs to be a great hire.
