Losing Faith in CFB Playoff Rankings
« on: December 03, 2014, 08:20:41 AM »
1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. TCU
4. Florida State
5. Ohio State
6. Baylor
7. Arizona
8. Michigan State
9. Kansas State
10. Miss State

- How is Oregon two spots better than Florida State?  I know it's fun to pick on FSU and hate Jameis Winston, but they're actually undefeated.  They have played OOC games that aren't cupcakes with Notre Dame and Florida.  Yes, Oregon has the decent win over Michigan State, but I don't think Florida loses more than two games if they played in the Big 10.  Also, Oregon lost at home to the one of two good conference teams on their schedule and lucked out not having USC or Arizona State on the slate at all.

- The biggest blunder is TCU at 3 and Baylor at 6.  They've played pretty much the exact same schedule - since you know, they're in the same damn conference - and Baylor beat TCU already.  Was it close?  Sure.  But Baylor won the fucking game.  How do you with two teams with the exact same records with similar schedules rank the team that lost to the other one ABOVE them?  The only difference between the two teams is that Baylor played some cupcakes early in the season and TCU scheduled Minnesota, who just so happened to put together a halfway decent team this year.  Still not enough to put TCU above Baylor, let alone, three spots above them.

- From the selection committee's website: "Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance."  Therefore, Ohio State is out.  Sorry.  Should not even be top 5.  Should not be there waiting on the wing to jump in if one of the top four teams lose.

- Michigan State played only two teams worth a damn on their schedule and lost both.  They have absolutely nothing of merit to warrant being in the top ten.

- Who then, THS, should actually be in the top ten?

Using what I thought was pretty damn good logic by them early on, the top ten should be:

1. Alabama
2. Florida State
3. Oregon
4. Baylor
5. Arizona
6. TCU
7. Missouri
8. Georgia Tech
9. Ohio State
10. Kansas State or Miss State

The great thing about AU not being in the 4 teams is that I don't have to spend any time or concern.

This needs to be 8 teams at a minimum.

I really think you can put Baylor and TCU 4a and 4b. Id be ok with BOTH of them making it and fucking some shit up. You are right though, FSU is undefeated and they are winning. They beat a UF team that absolutely MAULED UGA. It is what it is. I don't like them, but being objective, their schedule is decent and they do not have a loss. I give them credit for their resilient nature.

FSU, BAMA, BAYLOR, TCU would be ok with me. With the thought in mind that TCU and Baylor win those semi matchups. That would be glorious. I like Patterson and Briles.

I think the argument is more about TCU being in the top 4 rather than how the top 4 are lined up.  Is there that much difference between #1 and #4?  At this point, I don't think so.  Actually, at any point in the season I don't think there is.  So then, does it make sense to send Oregon fans to NOLA in the first round of the playoffs?  Does it make sense to send Florida State or Alabama fans to the west coast in the first round of the playoffs?  It doesn't if you then expect two of those teams to travel again, just 10 days later, to another big venue.

I think the goal should have always been, find the top 4 teams and pair them geographically.  Which is exactly what this move looks like to me, moving FSU down to 4.  And honestly, if Alabama were 4 and FSU were 1 I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Agree with all of the agreers.

1. THS's ranking of Baylor makes more sense
2. The bammer regarding regional positioning.
3. I don't give a fuck, the season is over.
4. Snaggle has no balls.

So, yeah, I'm not loving how the Falconbammers are gonna sloth into the playoffs as the 4 seed but I believe they'll be bounced quickly. Shaping up to be entertaining unless you are Kaos and you hate everything just on principle.

The playoff picture in the NFL right now only proves that we do NOT need that type of system in CFB.

I don't understand why they are not treating it like the pro's. Top seeds get one game at home, winners play at nuetral site. (Jerry's world this year)

As much a college fans like to travel, like you said two major trips (flight-hotel-and such) is a little much. Except for the uber rich.

With TCU and Baylor in the hunt, you think Jerry World is neutral?

Do people in Dallas acknowledge Baylor and TCU's existence? That's like Auburn acknowledging Troy and South Alabama to the Texas and aTm peoples out there.

If Oregon is higher seeded and is having to play TCU, I just don't know how we can call that a neutral sight. Especially logistically for Oregon. Not real fair to them.
