Corching Vacancies?
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:33:59 AM »
Just curious on what the rumor mill is in your world or what your thoughts are on some of the jobs that are...and are sure to open up.  I think it's pretty much a given that two huge programs are already looking in Florida and Michigan.  And both could have a major impact in shaking up the SEC but then, nothing ever seems to shake out like you expect.

Who does Florida go after?  I think you can rule out any coordinator and look strictly at guys with a good bit of head coaching experience.  Do they target Mullen or would they touch anyone from Urban Meyer's former staff.  That staff had long since let the inmates run the asylum.  I keep hearing Mark Hudspeth's name come up for that job and others.  He's got a 97-36 record at North Alabama and La. Lafayette.  Spurrier for a last Hurrah?  I know they want an offensive mind....at least the fans do.  Rich Rod?

What about Meatchicken?  Seems every year the rumors persist of The Hat heading to Ann Arbor.  How huge would that be?  Does he finally do it? Either way, I don't think they're going to settle for anything other than a huge, proven name.

Locally, what does Troy do?  Only interested because I wonder how soon someone is going to pluck Lashlee from the Plains.  Haven't heard anything specific but my guess would be they will go for someone like Mike Turk at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.  Former Troy QB (And JD) and has been their HC for about 10 years.  Good record.  The thing with Troy is I imagine Lashlee would have to take a pay cut to become HC.  What were they paying Blakeney, about $650K?

Is Craig on their radar?  I'd hate to lose him.

True Dat.  I can live with Lashlee going.  I think he'll make a great HC.  (Like I know what the hell I'm talking about) But I heard him speak this summer and he's all business.  Having said that, Malzahn is the brains of the operation and imagine he'd have Ryan Aplin step into Lashlee's role if/when he leaves.  Especially from a recruiting standpoint, losing Craig would be a bombshell.

Why not move Craig into the OC position?

As for the Reptiles of Gainesville, here's my theory. Foley has already told Muschamp he's out but they aren't saying anything until season ends for two reasons: 1) they don't want to deal with the constant questions on the coaching search while they are working behind the scenes to make moves, etc. Let Will sit and take it for a while.; 2) the person(s) Foley and co. are interested in won't be available until the season ends and that person doesn't want the distraction of media hounding. (i.e., Dan Mullen wants to act like he's all in on Miss. St. for right now.)

My thoughts are they start with Mullen and/or Freeze. Alabama state media will try and start a Gus rumor but that buyout is really prohibitive and anyone with a brain knows that won't happen. From there, I think a guy like Rich Rod from Arizona might be interesting if he keeps winning and if they want to go for the offense again.

I think he lets Muschamp finish out too.  Although, dumping Kiffin midstream worked out good for USC.  They turned their season around after he was gone.  I'm still trying to figure out who is calling the shots on offense.  Anyone who watched Duke under Roper the past couple of years knows that this crap they're running now doesn't remotely resemble his offense.  Maybe it does but they just don't have the personnel to run it.  Or is it that Corch Champ can't let go of the ultra conservative...play D mentality?

I think the UF ship has sailed for Mullen. It's a very doubtful hire. Chiz to Troy wouldn't surprise me. Things won't get any better unfortunately. Larry was a great coach but Troy isn't an easy place to win. He did wonders there, IMO. I doubt he was forced out but they prob quit giving him the warm and fuzzies. Also, he may be tired of the grind. I hate to see him retire in a year like this.

This was posted on the Gainesville Craigslist: http://gainesville.craigslist.org/edu/4723361836.html

Quote
Head Football Coach Desired (University Of Florida)

The state of Florida's flagship university is seeking a Qualified Candidate to develop and implement an exemplary football program while providing leadership on and off the field. This position should be available no later than Midnight Saturday, November 29th, but as soon as early morning Sunday, November 2nd.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Because UF is a DESTINATION coaching job, applicants must have ALREADY had head coaching experience. This is not a stepping stone job offering OJT or otherwise prepares you for another position in the NFL or other university in the future. If hired, you must be previously groomed to
1) Win consistently,
2) Stay for more than 4 seasons, and
3) have composure when roaming the sidelines.

Composure includes but is not limited to:
1) not screaming at players & referees regularly,
2) resisting facial expressions suggesting you are ready to commit violent acts on the sideline,
3) not taking personal shots at other fan bases on live tv after barely winning a game you should have lost, and
4) not looking like a deer in the headlights when things go wrong... repeatedly, caused on the field by your own first-teamers.

- To understand, embrace and embody the winning traditions associated with the University Of Florida. This includes winning games against in-conference rivals as well as the women's college (aka the clown college) down the road. Winning every single solitary game is not required (Bear Bryant didn't even win them ALL), but you must post a winning record against your key foes throughout your tenure as Head Football Coach.

- Ability to win games against glorified high schools and junior colleges, aka "cupcakes", especially when the contest is held on the university's own campus.

- To win football games in a manner that is not only acceptable on the scoreboard, but consistently impressive enough to fill a 90k-seat stadium on a regular basis. Must also re-establish The Swamp as a place feared by all opposing football programs.

- Knowledge of the university's alma mater. Will be required to attend EVERY SINGLE post-game tradition of singing the same on the field; ALL members of the football team must also be in attendance and able to recite the same, whether you win your contest or lose.

- If you are a defense-first coach, you must possess the skill-set to resist altering/changing or otherwise undermining/torpedoing the Offensive Coordinator's game plan and philosophy.

- Your offense must be able to score more points than the opposing team's defense. Your offense must be able to score more points than the opposing team's special teams as well. There can never be any confusion whether it's the actual players in uniform instead of drunk cheerleaders/Albert/Alberta.

- Post-game press conferences must not sound identical nor contain the same excuses from one Saturday night to the next. Focus placed on ability to actually implement changes when on-field problems are identified in said conferences.

- Ability to start a quarterback that can discern between Gators players and opposing players when throwing passes. Said quarterback must also never possess any form of lubricant on hands (butter, baby oil, etc) when holding a football during game conditions.

- Must not be a graduate of the University of Georgia.

- Must have clean bill of health and agree to all medical screenings, to include the ruling out of any potential chest pains and esophageal spasms.

- Must be able to control his wife, ensuring she doesn't open her mouth... ever. She's not on the payroll, you will be.

- Must not have the last name of Zook. We tried you out once. Didn't work out. Sorry.

If your last name is Spurrier, you can skip the interview process this time. Seriously. We're sorry. Very sorry. The job is yours. We'll help you pack. Name your price. Please come back.

Send all resumes to:
