Gus Malzahn has reinstated senior safety Jermaine Whitehead to the football team after a four-game suspension.
AuburnUndercover first reported that Whitehead would return to the team for the South Carolina game two weeks ago. Malzahn confirmed Whitehead's return during his Tuesday press conference.
Whitehead was suspended before the Kansas State game for an altercation with an assistant football coach during practice. Whitehead has not traveled or participated in practice since his suspension.
Per sources, Whitehead met with Malzahn last weekend to discuss his standing and at that time, it was decided Whitehead would return to the team for the South Carolina game. Sources indicate that Whitehead has been told he will play special teams and scout team for the immediate future, and Malzahn said on Tuesday that Whitehead's role against South Carolina this Saturday has not been determined.
Whitehead had 12 tackles and two interceptions through two games before his suspension.
