Quote

The SEC announced Tuesday that Mike Slive will retire as commissioner in 2015 as he begins treatment for a recurrence of prostate cancer for which he was treated in the late 1990s.

"I have been blessed in more ways than I can count and I will have as much passion for this job on my last day as I did on my first," said Slive, whose last day as commissioner will be July 31. "I consider my health situation a temporary detour in a remarkable road that has allowed me to meet amazing people, experience incredible events and celebrate historic victories. I will relish my final year in this position and look forward to being the biggest fan of the SEC for many years to come."

Slive's medical condition was diagnosed before a surgical procedure on his back in August. His prognosis is good and he will continue to carry out his responsibilities from the SEC Office and his home office in Birmingham, according to an SEC release, though his travel and appearances may be limited.

Slive, who has led the SEC for 13 years, will serve in the role of consultant to the conference for four years after his retirement.

He has led a period of unprecedented success for the conference, spearheading the adoption of a new NCAA compliance initiative, engineering landmark television contracts and the launch of a conference network, welcoming Texas A&M and Missouri into an expanded 14-team league, and presiding over seven straight football national championships, a streak that ended last year.

A national search for Slive's successor will commence this fall, according to Vanderbilt Chancellor Nick Zeppos, chair of the SEC presidents and chancellors.

I don't think any schools experienced any serious sanctions while he was commissioner.

I was thinking Paul Jr., Gaylen McCollough or Snake Stabler but Battle is a likely choice.

I was thinking of Nick. I think he would dig the title:

Nick Saban:   SEC Commissioner/Head coach

That would give him wood.  Tiny little wood, but wood nonetheless.

Bill Battle HATES Auburn as badly as any ex-Bammer player, former UT Head Coach or rival AD ever could.
And as a fan I dislike him moreso  than anyone Auburn has ever faced with the exception of Nick Saban.

Yup, Bill Battle it is.

"Mr. Battle, what's the first thing you're going to do as the new SEC Commissioner?"

"Welp, after I get Auburn put on probation for the Cam situation, I'm going to continue to make sure bamugh plays the patsys of the East."

He would also have a hard-on for Auburn because JJ hired Bruce Pearl.
I've hated the fucker since he punted to Auburn on third down in an effort to embarrass Shug when our offense was struggling to move the ball against UT.
And Coach Jordan would never pull a stunt like that against an opposing coach or team.

My thought exactly. After failing to get the HUNH outlawed, this is the only logical move he can make. He can kill it from the chairman's desk.
