Daniel Carlson, P, Auburn
• In his first career game, averaged 53.3 yards on three punts with two inside the 20.
• Punt of 62 yards was the longest by an Auburn player since 2006.
• Seven-of-eight kickoffs were for touchbacks.
• Six-for-six on PATs and connected on 1-of-2 field goals.
• Handles all punts, kickoffs and placekicking duties for the Tigers.

Kudos to him.  Strong leg and looks to be accurate.  I was surprised by that first punt.  A rocket shot and perfect spiral.

And how often does a back run for 177 yards in a conference game and he's probably a very distant third in POTW standings?  Well, 4th if you factor in Jacob Coker's performance.

Someone here told me to be shitting with fear that our kicking & punting game was going to be dismal, so I was very pleasantly surprised this weekend.

If Daniel Carlson punts like that all year and we learn to actually use our arms to help tackle people, our defense should have some really good numbers.

That would be me.  I said it looks like we have a kicker because Carlson has a strong and accurate leg.  But I saw him punt the ball at least 30 times in practice and scrimmage and he was hard pressed to kick one 30+ yards or keep it in bounds.  It was ugly.

Holy schnikies.  This^^^   And the locker room interview of Whitehead was painful too.  In describing the interception he tried to say "I saw the ball fluttering...."  It came out, "I seent da' baw flirturrinin..."
