Auburn H-Back injured; availability for season up in air

AUBURN, Alabama -- Auburn fullback Gage Batten has been injured, and his status for the upcoming season is in doubt.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn confirmed Batten has been injured, but did not divulge details or the severity of the injury Tuesday.

"He's a tough guy," Malzahn said. "He's a team player, he's a hard working guy, brings a lot of edge to our team."

Batten's injury affects Auburn's plans at H-Back, where Brandon Fulse and C.J. Uzomah are expected to challenge for the starting job. Batten, a walk-on, is a backup.

Tight ends coach Scott Fountain said last week Batten had the potential to be the go-to lead blocker in third-and-short situations.
