After a leisurely dinner, we slid into the New Year by watching Squid Game, Season 2.
So far (four episodes in) it's a very different show than the first season was. There's a lot going on outside the game.
Gi-Hun, the "winner" in Season One, is back. Far from the aimless, happy-go-lucky goofball he was in the first season, Gi is a hard-edged almost John Wick-ish type character determined to end the game and those who guide it.
Jun-Ho, the cop whose brother turned out to be the Front Man, is also back with the same burning mission as Gi-Hun. Find the game and shut it down.
There are a bevy of new characters once we get to the game itself, but I don't see any of them having the same "man, I love her" allure of Saeng-byeok, or the "poor little guy" intrigue of the old man Il-Nam. I could be wrong, though.
Topping Season One was going to be a tall order. I think the approach of continuing the story in a different way is likely the right way to go. I love the Korean dramas anyway, and this is a really good one. I recognize some of the new characters from other shows I've watched, especially one of the stronger characters from Sweet Home - who hasn't been given much to do yet.
Oh, there's a tranny, but for some reason it's not bothering me.
Looking forward to the rest of this season to see how it pans out. If you haven't watched Season One, go back and do it now. And then watch this.
