Last year's turnaround was obviously one of the greatest, if not the greatest, in college foosballz history. 13 seconds away from another MNC. This year, the offense should again be as potent as any in the country. Experienced QB, 4 out of 5 O-linemen back, a big ole Duke added to an already bad ass WR corp....and a Gus running the show. So, how do we get back into the show? Can we simply outscore everyone? I hope that's not the case but my gut feeling is if our defense does not improve significantly, we may be wondering where those 3-4 losses came from at the end of the year.
The D returns a ton of players and hopefully, we'll see them kick it up a notch or five. The 2013 squad gave up 25 points a game. Yes, they did enough to get us in the show, as did the 2010 defense that also gave up almost 25 a game. But how many times can you keep executing last minute drives and hauling in tipped passes and returning FG's 109 yards? How many times did the 2010 club give up 30+ and have to find a way to win? I think of what we've been watching the last 5 years and it makes me think, if we had anything close to the defenses Tuberville put on the field during his tenure, guess what? NO ONE beats us! I can't even begin to think what it'd be like if we had anything resembling Pat Dye's defenses. A quick sampling of points per game totals for CTT and Corch Dye:
2003: 16.3
2004: 11.3
2005: 15.5
2006: 13.9
2007: 16.9
2008: 18.0 on a team that basically had fallen apart.
1985: 17
1986: 10
1987: 11
1988: 7.6
Can we get our points allowed under 20 a game? Can we take a Venus Lady Razor and shave 6-7 points a game from our average? To me, that's the whole key. Do that, and we're in the Final Four. If not...well, the "Luck" may run out.
