NO ONE can stop Auburn's offense.  Not even Nick Saban.  It's going to dominate everyone they play.

Four losses.

From al.com's article:

Quote
"The offense will dominate," according to the analytical piece, "but luck might finally run out for SEC champs."

Rod Gilmore uses analyst Brian Fremeau's projections in his piece, which breaks down the Tigers' offense and why the defense could be a problem as they try to repeat their success from a year ago against a tougher road schedule.

So we were only lucky, our defense cannot improve, and we have a tougher road schedule.

The road schedule has validity.  The other two are fanboys hee-hawing over warm beer outside their trailer.

Gilmore is a racist tool.  Screw him.  I didn't read it.

I don't worry about predictions.  I just know that when you're in the SEC West, if you handle yo bidnezz, you will make the playoffs.  Having said that, Auburn does have one hell of a task in front of them.  The schedule is as brutal as we've had since 83'.  And that's saying something.  3 top 10 teams, 2 of which are on the road.  Plus, according to Athlon, #18 Ole Miss on the road, #19 LSU and #20 KSU on the road.

The D has to get a good bit better than #86 in the country with that schedule.  And, we have to stay injury free, which is what we did last year for the most part.  Not being Debbie Downer (Waa Waaaaaa) because I think this team has a chance to be incredibly good and win the West.  But if I'm one of the "experts" in the business of analyzing teams and making predictions, I don't put us in with the schedule we play.

What's funny/frustrating (funstrating?) is that while we were "lucky" last year and our luck is inevitably going to run out (nevermind that we were beating UGA 27-7 and that Holland very clearly stopped Murray outside the goal line for the BS TD that the refs gifted UGA to give them the 1 point lead to begin with, or that had Chris Davis not ran back the Kick 6, Auburn would be going into OT with all the momentum in front of an insanely pumped home crowd), meanwhile Bama gets every benefit of every doubt. They are losing their whole goddamn team and we're virtually the same squad that beat them & everyone else in the SEC (besides LSU) last year. Oh and LSU is in just as much of a rebuilding year.

Bottom line, there is absolutely zero, zilch, nada reason not to at least assume going into the season that Auburn will win the SEC this year. Not saying it's 100% fact, because nothing ever is. But to default to Bama every year? And to default to us being the #19 team in these BS power rankings? How do you rationalize it? Bama would never have that coming off a season like we did last year. Such is the plight of the Auburn fan, I suppose.

I would think that a lot of the rationale is based on last year's luck and this years road schedule. Those are valid.

I think they just have to come up with something and I don't put a lot of stock into it. In reality, we likely know a lot more about our current state than most of these talking heads. They have 100 other schools to know something about.

We know that this years offense and Nick Marshall should very likely be more balanced and explosive than last years.

We also know that we will have an improved defense.

It doesn't bother me where they put us, although I do think ranking us outside of number 3 is crazy.

We have a mine field to get through but I'm expecting us to win the SEC again.

What's stupid though is every championship takes luck.  Fuck bama was lucky to be in 2 of the 3 they were in.  They needed teams above them to lose and it happened each time.

Absolutely true. Our luck had the spotlight on it though. Mount Cody blocking the field goal against UT isn't even in the same zip code with the prayer at Jordan Hare or the kick 6.

I don't have any problem calling our season lucky. But I believe that you have to be damn good to create a lot of that luck. It was one of the luckiest seasons I can recall for AU. Maybe going back to 93?

Agree on the luck thing.  It was a lucky play and yes, you have to have some breaks go your way, whatever they may be, to have a championship type season.  Two keys to the season.  1. The D needs to get the points per game they give up to 20 or below.  Gave up 25 a game last season.  That way, even with a "bad game" offensively, we outscore everyone we play, bar none.  2. Injury free.

Improved D and stay relatively injury free and we should be one of the 4.

I'm not denying that both plays, especially the Prayer in Jordan Hare, involved luck. And lots of it, in the case of PIJH.

But what I'm saying is what has already been said.

A) You have to have some luck to win championships. Every champion in history had a few lucky bounces. Only when it's Auburn is it used to completely invalidate everything that was done on the field. If Bama had those same two outcomes zero analysts would be going on about lucky Bama was to get where they did and have no chance of repeating it next year. It would be about how much perseverance they have. Somehow it would be linked back to Saban and the no-quit attitude he instills in the team.

B) While, yes, there was some luck involved, there was a lot of skill to get us there too. It's not like UGA's deflection alone directly gave Auburn 7 points. Ricardo had to have his head in the right place and make the play, which he did. And also, as I said, the game should have been over at that point anyway. Not only had Auburn let off the gas big time in the second half and let a 20 point beatdown slip away, but the TD that finally gave UGA the lead was complete and utter BS, and I would argue much more "luck". And as I said, the Bama game really was much less about luck. Auburn had the slight upper hand the entire game and by the time the Kick 6 happened was clearly carrying all of the momentum. Bama was deflated and on the ropes. And Auburn had a home crowd losing their minds even before that miraculous play. If it had not been run back, we're going to overtime, and I'd have put all my money on Auburn at that point. But it was run back. And how "miraculous" was it really? It was Gus outcoaching "mastermind" Saban by putting a guy in the end zone and telling him to run it out. It was the infallible Lord Saban lining up a kicker and 10 tubs of lard against our speedsters because it never occurred to him that we might try to run it back. And it was Chris Davis burning all those fat fucks in a true display of athleticism. So I'm much less inclined to chock up the Kick 6 to "luck".

C) I would say Auburn caught as many unlucky breaks as we did lucky breaks, so if anything it evens out and we're right back where we started as still the best team in the SEC. Or is it only luck when it works out in Auburn's favor? The aforementioned UGA TD that never should have been. The LSU onside kick that was reversed. Come to think of it, the "bad luck" was much less that as it was piss-poor officiating. Man-made bad breaks.
