I think your interpretation is not "thinking it all the way through", but over thinking it and stretching to make quoting Hitler to promote a church ok.

To me, intentional or not, when you have a billboard that says:

"He alone who owns the youth gains the future" - Adolf Hitler
"Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it. - Proverbs 22:6"

It is implying that both quotes are wise words that demonstrate the importance of influencing children at an impressionable age.

See my previous post about those that won't get it.

Hitler was a genius. An evil genius, but a genius no doubt. To do what he did, and influence as many people as he did in a short amount a time, genius; And ruthless.

but if you throw the evil out and just study the facts, what he was able to accomplish is astonishing. Many who wish to gain power still follow his footprint. We can see twinges of it in the democratic party today.

The man came with in a hair on gnats ass to ruling the entire globe.

If not for the shear will and determination of an ill-prepared, yet stubborn nation, history would be different.

And then there was luck on our side too. If not for the bombing of their only ball-bearing plant, Germany would have totally owned the skies. all of the things that had to go right for the allies to win that war is astonishing. And all of that because we were facing an evil genius.

So if someone wants to point out Hitlers words as a warning, then I think we should heed those words and wisely teach and influence our children before someone else does it for us!

That's exactly correct sir. Both quotes are from institutions that were WILDLY successful at changing the lives of young people. In this instance the church is demonstrating that based on who you allow to influence children there's an wide spectrum of possibility. You have the Hitler youth program and all the young men and women that either tacitly or actively allowed atrocity to not just occur but be nearly universally accepted by the general population or, on the other hand, you can teach values and beliefs that align with your own.

The difference in my interpretation and your "Hitler quote evil" interpretation is not over thinking, but merely thinking at all. They are using the profound evil perpetrated by an entire nation to demonstrate that good and evil is a choice but it's a choice that is easier to make when you have been taught the difference at an early age. History does us no good if we don't thoroughly examine it for lessons to apply to the future.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

His first clue was probably that the quote was immediately followed by "-Adolf Hitler".

Well now that totally gives it away.

Yes, and no. Hitler was his own worst enemy, While driving on Moscow he stopped and attacked Stalingrad, which caused his troops to get stuck in one of the worst winters in modern history. He could have taken Moscow and rode out the winter, Moscow falls, the whole country falls. His second mistake was declaring War on the U.S., we had just been attacked by Japan and all our efforts were going to be directed there. We had not helped Great Britain except with supplies.

Weird that the guy that put up the sign never mentioned an intention to contrast Hitler's quote with the Bible verse,  and instead said it probably would have been better to use a Hoover quote instead.

Hitler quote on Alabama billboard has children's ministry running for cover

AUBURN, Ala. -- The founder of a children's ministry in eastern Alabama says a billboard featuring a quote from Adolf Hitler has been covered and will be removed.

The billboard at the Village Mall in Auburn, Alabama, features five smiling children beneath a quote from Hitler in a 1935 speech on the Nazi youth movement: "He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future."

It was displayed on the sign with a Bible verse from Proverbs: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

The billboard was installed Friday and immediately sparked comments on social media. It was covered by midday Tuesday

Lamar Advertising officials say the billboard was rented by Opelika, Alabama-based Life Savers Ministries.

Live Savers Ministries founder James Anderegg told The Ledger-Enquirer of Columbus, Georgia, "We are pulling the billboard and certainly never intended to cause confusion."

He added that in hindsight, it would have been better to quote Herbert Hoover who said, 'Children are our most valuable resource.'"

"We are a children's organization and had honorable intentions and nothing less," Anderegg said.

For the record I didn't think he was contrasting shit and  Hilter was still correct.

If he wasn't then he missed a flippin' good opportunity.
Either way, since I love to be right, I'm just going to assume that those quotes were cherry picked from a 10 minute interview where the guy clearly and concisely outlined their message and the asshole reporter picked the two sentences that most aligned with the story he wanted to run. Having vast experience with the media I can tell you that's how they go. Or, alternately, the poor SOB just decided to punt having experienced the initial backlash and wanting to save his organization.

i didn't say he did not make mistakes. As with most geniuses, he believed he was always right. he wanted to conquer the world and the US was part of that. For a small country that had been under sanctions since WWI, he almost succeeded. Looking back, it is scary the knowledge and resources he was able to muster up.

No one man should ever have that kind of power, EVER again. I wonder if we would have dropped the bomb on Berlin? And what the effect of that would be today.
