And again - what the fuck are you talking about?

Your disdain for corporate jobs and looking down on anyone who chooses to have one, as if they are some kind of poor schmuck who doesn't know any better.

Or was that not you that TW put in their place a couple of months ago?

Had our pow-wow on Friday afternoon, worked out some things but really just puts me in holding pattern. Not really cut out for the political BS that goes on around here. The head guy and I (he's ex-military) came to an understanding, as I was leaving his office he said that any two week notice I give will be adhere too no matter what the situation and I said any other e-mail warnings I get I will walk out the door anyway. Updated my resume and sent a few out over the weekend. I have had two jobs since being out of the military, I don't want to be seen as a job hopper.

Yeah never said any of that in those posts.  If that's what you took away from it, you're no different than Fox News morons who bring predisposed conclusions to conversations instead of understanding what an opposing viewpoint is conveying.

EDIT - Also, I've been more private sector the last year and a half than just about everyone here save for Kaos.

The concept of Fox news is "fair and balanced". You need to take your anti-capitalism and disposable socialism viewpoints to a hippy commune somewhere.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

As a "boss" I'm sometimes required to do things you'd think wouldn't ever be necessary.

> Company-wide memo reminding people that shoes must be worn when representing the company at public events.

> Memo that the singing of religious hymns should be conducted after regular business hours as it could be heard by customers calling the helpdesk.  (Had two in separate offices who 'got religious fever' and started harmonizing with each other from their respective offices.  When I banned the bellowing, I was threatened as a persecutor of religion. I had to alter the restriction to say any music)

> Note that boiling eggs in the microwave was not permitted. Because one tried to bpil an egg in the microwave, obviously. It blew the door off, ruined the microwave and sprayed scalding hot egg remnants against the opposite wall.  Had anyone been in the kitchen when the egg bomb exploded, I'd have been dealing with medical bills.

> Restriction on the number of exclamation points and capitalized words in an email.  Perhaps the silliest one of all. Had a client relations rep who started every email she sent with GOOD Morning!!!!  And then had one, two or three exclamation points after every sentence.  So the average email read like this:

GOOD Morning!!!!

We are PLEASED to announce that in September we will be offering FOUR new training opportunities!! Trainings on payroll entry, transcript generation, outcome followup and end of year processing will be held online!!!!! We will also offer one hands on session on each topic at a location to be announced SOON!!!!

Hope you have a GREAT day!!!

Before I sent the memo outlining what was acceptable and not acceptable in emails, I had a communications specialist come in and give a half day seminar on writing effective emails.   She took notes, seemed to pay attention and then her next email started with GOOD Morning!!!!!

So I sent the memo.  And had people complain.  Didn't have anybody threaten to quit, but still.

Guess my point is that sometimes as a boss you have to do stupid things because you have stupid people working for you.  What you don't need is the people who aren't being stupid bitching because they don't like hearing rules that the stupid people forced on you.

I agree with the writing style points but I believe there are exceptions. Ex: fuck you. Fuck you just doesn't have the same impact as, "FUCK YOU!!!" seems to have. I guess it's a matter of taste. You're the boss, so, fuck you it is.

I think you could probably get by with two exclamation points.  I'd also prefer that if you're going to go for the emphatic reference that you'd direct the emphasis to the "you" portion.  It's more personal.

I'd revise your entry to read "fuck YOU!!" to achieve that goal.

If your emphasis was directed more venomously, the word 'fuck" should be capitalized.  I still think you could go with just two exclamation points (or perhaps four, but never three).  That would leave you with "FUCK you!!"  Give the impression that you're spitting the curse at them.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

See, I am a 1 or 3 "!" person myself. 2 or 4 "!" throws off the balance to me. It's like planting 4 bushes in the front of your house. There is no middle. There is no focal point.

Um.  How's that again?  How can you possibly be more private sector than those of us who work 40+ hours a week in... wait for it... private sector jobs?  By being self-employed?  Hate to tell you this, but the states do not count the self-employed as "private sector" for purposes of tracking unemployment, unless by "self-employed", you own a business that is duly licensed and registered as an entity with the state - like an LLC, PC or Inc.  Were you any of those?  If not, you are not considered as "private sector".

See, I am a 1 or 3 "!" person myself. 2 or 4 "!" throws off the balance to me. It's like planting 4 bushes in the front of your house. There is no middle. There is no focal point.

You seek symmetry, I seek balance.  With four bushes, the focus is on whatever is in the middle of the arrangement.  I prefer that the house be the focal point, not the "centered" bush.  A bush should accentuate the elevation (or "face") of your home and not be the focus itself.

When the Mexicans tried to put three bushes in front of my home, I insisted on a cluster of four with bookending larger shrubs (a holly variation and a crepe myrtle).  I didn't know the proper translation for "four, dammit."  Apparently "cilantro, por diem" is not correct.

I eventually got my point across by standing on a spot, pointing vigorously and shouting "el busho, right here-o".  My efforts to communicate on their terms clearly pleased them as they went about their work with happy smiles and nods.  I even heard them repeating "el busho, right here-o" on numerous occasions as they worked.  I felt like we truly connected.  But they put six bushes in the grouping anyway.  Perhaps my ability to cross the cultural divide resulted in some extra greenery.

When I later oversprayed Roundup and murdered one of the bushes, the symmetry was off and I had to kill another one to make up for it.  I like the balance of 2, 4, 6, 8 and other even numbers.

I think you can have symmetry with odd numbers.  With odd numbers larger than 1, you can have true balance by having a defined center.  Three bushes, one in the middle with the same number on either side of the visually established center.

I am fond of even numbers in certain situations, like when eating M&Ms (two by two, first sorted by color, of course.  Red first, then brown, orange, yellow, green and blue, assuming the traditional colors.  The exception being when I get a wild hair and leave the orange and blue for last, because it is visually appealing in the bowl.)

Bazinga.

As so many insist on attempting to point out, it's good for my standard of living for those of you to participate in that kind of work.

Unfortunately for you, I copied that little statement before you deleted it.  And it sums up your position up neatly, doesn't it?

So I guess you can understand why many on here would resent being seen as the means to fund the standard of living of a healthy, educated young person who walks away from gainful employment while trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up, even when he has a family to support.  I hope you appreciate the gift you have been given, and make the most of the opportunities that seem to have come your way.  I suspect that you may feel as though you are entitled to this freedom to find yourself, no matter the cost, because happiness is so important to one's self-esteem, and everyone deserves to be happy.  Or at least YOU do, right?  Because that's what matters!

So by all means, let me and my fellow corporate drones continue to fund your journey of self-exploration. We hope you succeed beyond your wildest dreams, so that one day you too can pay enough taxes to support the next generation of wanderers.  Here.  Have a cookie.  Nap time is in 15 minutes.  We will pass out the trophies afterwards.
