Rudi Johnson

And now Tre Mason. Where is he in the list of top running backs of all time?

Hard to say, different offenses, different eras. In terms of pure physical skills (strength, size, speed, etc.) I would put him behind several on that list. In terms of non measurables (vision, heart, nose for the endzone) he's nearly as good as any RB we've had.

And I would add Ben Tate to your list of great Auburn running backs. Not his fault he got stuck in the Tony Franklin experience his junior year, in his one year as "the guy" with a competent offense around him he had 1300+ yards.

Mason's actually one of the more physical runners I've seen. He's not much for being shifty (Carnell) and he doesn't have as much breakaway speed (Ronnie), but he pounds it by making one cut and powering his way down the field.

Just look at his 37 yard touchdown run. An FSU defender hit him square in the quad, but Mason ran right through him to the endzone.

He set the single season rushing record, the touchdown record, and the SECCG rushing record.

I agree. I'd say Top 4, for sure.

Whether you place him in front of Bo, James, or Carnell should be the debate.

He's top ten but after that it is truly debatable. Not even counting some others that could be on that list. Stephen Davis. James Bostic. William Andrews. We have truly been blessed with some outfuckingstanding running backs throughout the years!

As far as the single season record you also have to account for many more games being played in a season now then there was 20+ years ago.

Those others did this in a more defensive era. That matters. Not knocking tre but it's the same as a pitcher having a low era in the juiced ball era versus now.

Id say as of right now somewhere in the middle of that list.
