First post, so a short history of my road to becoming an Auburn fan.
I'm an Indiana grad, and attended IU at a time when we were actually a bowl program. Many of you will remember that IU and Auburn actually squared off in a Bowl game way back when (Peach Bowl, I believe).
Anyway, a friend of mine attended Auburn and in the spring of 1993 I visited him for a night on the way down to Panama City for spring break. That day and night on that BEAUTIFUL Auburn campus transformed me into a Tiger fan for life. Basketball is everything here in Indiana, and you can feel that all over campus at any time during the year. And I felt that same passion for Auburn football during that first visit, even on the eve of a BRUTAL snowstorm that wound up crippling traffic for days just north of Montgomery.
That was 20 years ago this past March, and I love Auburn and it's programs (especially football!) as much as I do IU. I get the same pangs of anxiety and waves of emotion during Tiger FB games that I experience during Hoosier BB games, and with both sides of my family being Sicilian Italian it can be very emotional! Out of sheer coincidence (or was it ....) my wife, whom I met at IU, also had a friend attending Auburn at the exact same time, so she is a big Auburn fan as well, and we went back to Auburn in 1996 for her friend's wedding on campus.
Anyway, found the site after looking for a good board after the Iron Bowl and wanted to share a short story about what I did with my classes today.
I teach 7th grade SS and instead of our normal warm-up I talked to all six classes about the Iron Bowl finish and showed them the ESPN clip with the fan reactions. The kids LOVED it, and tried to challenge me on the fact that the Auburn-Alabama rivalry makes IU-Purdue and Michigan-OSU look like child's play. They've seen that large Auburn flag hanging in my classroom all year, and now they know first-hand what a great thing is brewing down in Auburn.
Thanks for reading, and War Eagle from Central Indiana!
