The Hypocrisy of Sports Media

The Hypocrisy of Sports Media
« on: November 21, 2013, 08:02:58 AM »
So Johnny Manziel signed some autographs yet had zero traces of evidence to prove that he was signing them for cash, and the media has decided that despite his statistical improvement from last year, his lack of integrity soils his candidacy for the Heisman.

Jameis Winston is being investigated for a sex crime, and the majority of the media is in a "wait and see" mode and many are saying this shouldn't affect his Heisman or national championship run because he hasn't been charged yet.

(For more, see Cam Newton)

This is a very strange series of events.   I mean, usually it's the white guy getting off, but in this case, it's the black guy.

Because Winston didn't do anything wrong.  It's Bama media making this up, cause they are scared to play FSU.

Seriously though -

On the Roundtable while talking to Brad Edwards, the attitude was - "Well, if he's charged with a felony, it won't be cleared up in time for the bowl games, but I do fully expect this to go away."

When it was Manziel, everyone was attacking A&M's chancellor and head coach for daring to stick up for their player and claim that he did nothing wrong.

Same thing with Newton.

I'm not buying any kind of REC conspiracy here.  It's fucking strange that they're reporting all of this shit about Winston and in the same breath saying, "Probably nothing to worry about.  The prosecution's case is falling apart, yada yada."

One of my best friends is a big FSU guy and this morning I told him, "Welcome to the last few decades of an Auburn fans' world."  He had the same questions echoed by many over the last couple of weeks.  Why now?  Why now when this girl already said she didn't want to pursue it and the police didn't either?  I asked if he realized the accusations/rumors about Cam's dad talking with a MSU booster happened at least 8-9 months prior to them becoming the lead story on every sports media outlet.  You know, just at the time when Auburn becomes a legitimate threat to the MNC and Cam is vaulting to the top of the Heisman race?

Auburn fans know all too well about timing and different treatment by the media.  But in all fairness, it does appear, at least to me anyway, that the sucker punch use of timing is long past the point of ridiculousness there, Rob Dyrdek.  Auburn has been the recipient countless times.  Who is the biggest threat to Bama early on?  JFF in the second game of the season.  College football is about to crank up...BAM...scandal on JFF.  Conversely, game week for THE GAME OF THE CENTURY.....BAM...scandal on DJ Fucker.  (Sorry for use of the word "Scandal" with that situation) Winston emerges as the clear #1 for the Heisman and FSU has an easy road to Pasadena...BAM....year old dead issue becomes scandal.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

In the Winston case, it likely has less to do with someone being scared of playing him, and more to do with him being a huge success in football, and now someone wants to get paid.
